Hello fellow wiki users!

I’d like to announce that we have made a to-do list on additions and changes to the wiki that were approved in previous moots, but have yet to be amended to the wiki itself.

The list gives a brief description on each task that needs to be done, and lists the required steps for them. It also gives a completion percentage for each step to show how much work has been done on them. Tasks will be removed from the list once they are completed.

Anyone can update the task list with the community’s current progress and may add more tasks that are agreed to during future moots.

The multi-source meme criteria is now enforced

Hello everyone.

Today we would like to announce that the multi-source meme criteria has now come into full effect. During the moot focused around the topic that took place on August 19, 2023, we voted on a few more amendments to the list’s criteria. We have also archived the channel for discussion on the topic in the Discord server as well, since it has now served its intended purpose, but that doesn’t mean we’re ending all discussion on it. You can still discuss the criteria in the server and on the wiki itself, as well as propose any changes to it as a discussion topic for future moots.

Policy against making blank articles and multi-source memes criteria update

Hello fellow wiki editors! We have two important announcements to make today.

Rules against creating blank articles

We now have written rules against creating empty articles on the wiki. Making blank articles has always been frowned upon by pretty much all of our frequent editors and staff, but this rule has previously only really been mentioned in edit summaries, conversations in the discord server and messages on user walls.

As a result of this, we feel it’s been long overdue to have these rules listed on the wiki itself. They are now officially part of the wiki’s content policy, and can be found under the “Don't create incomplete pages” section linked below. Please read through them carefully and familiarise yourself with them.

Upcoming multi-source memes criteria

During the July 2023 moot, we created a set of criteria for classifying multi-source memes on the wiki. It is designed to be a standard that the wiki will follow to determine when a meme on the SiIvaGunner channel has multiple different sources attached to it. Examples of multi-source memes that could possibly be classified as such under this criteria include frequently referenced video games and bands, such as Undertale and Maroon 5 respectively.

We decided to add an early version of criteria to the wiki’s content policy with a grace period lasting until August 6, where it was originally planned to come into full effect. During this period, we allowed discussion on the topic in a thread in the wiki’s Discord server centred around the topic, and we would consider implementing any changes to the criteria that were suggested in there.

However after observing the current situation with the criteria, we have decided that there are more things that need to be sorted out and discussed regarding it that we are likely unable to cover prior to August 6.

We have also noticed that the thread in the Discord server seems to have been forgotten about. This is likely due to the way Discord displays threads in servers which often leads to them getting buried, and we probably should have taken that into consideration before we made it.

In response to these issues, we have decided to enact the following changes. The current grace period for the multi-source memes criteria has been extended to August 20. On August 19, we will have a separate moot centred solely around this topic where the final criteria will be voted on, and the changes will come into effect the following day. Prior to this happening, all discussion and proposals on the topic will be in the new temporary channel multi-source-meme-discussion in the Discord server, which will replace the inactive thread in it.

You can find the currently proposed criteria for multi-source memes in the link below, though it’s important to note that this criteria is not in effect just yet, and no new categories involving memes with multiple sources should be made until the grace period ends and the final policy has been decided on.

I also want to emphasise that we don’t normally make large decisions on the wiki during regular conversations in the Discord server itself. Moots are where the final decisions on all proposals are made, including this one. We’re just having a temporary channel in the Discord server for this one topic to get more opinions on it, since most of our active editors primarily interact in there.

There is no need for us to show the person who made that rip this info, as we already talked to them about it and they said it was not meant to be a reference to those channels. We would just be repeating a question to them that they've already answered when we contacted them about it previously.

I removed the trivia point from the article because the information was too far removed from the SiIvaGunner channel, and there was no indication within the rip's upload date or contents that it was made to be a specific reference to that controversy in the first place.

I also had a member of our staff reach out to the person who originally made that rip to ask them if it was meant to be a reference to the channels you mentioned, and they said it was never intended to be that and it was just a coincidence.

A source needs to have 30 or more uses in rips to be counted as a meme on the wiki. "Raft Ride" hasn't been used that much yet, so it shouldn't have one.

Hey ShyGuyGamer, the wiki staff have discussed your suggestion for a "Rips featuring Cave Story" category and have voted 0-5 to reject it. We don't think that the game's overall soundtrack is used enough in rips to make it notable enough to warrant a category.

Hi Turret. The wiki staff have discussed this purposal and have voted 6-0 to support it.

As a result of this, disambiguation pages for "Grand Dad" and "SiIvaGunner" will be made. The only thing we will not implement is adding KiIvaKunner to the SiIvaGunner disambiguation page, since we feel it is distinct enough to not warrant being part of it.

The wiki staff have voted 5-0 to support the proposal of changing the "Rips featuring Rock My Forum" category to a "Rips featuring Ray William Johnson" one, as well as removing all rips that only reference "Rock My Emotions" from the existing category.

Our reasons for coming to this decision is that we feel that RWJ has been referenced in multiple ways on the SiIvaGunner channel semi-frequently over the years to be considered a meme. For the removal "Rock My Emotions" rips, we agreed that only using the original song in a rip with no references to RWJ in it shouldn’t make it qualify for the category.

This decision means that:

• The existing "Rips featuring Rock My Forum" category must be renamed to a "Rips featuring Ray William Johnson" category

• All rips only using “Rock My Emotions” must be removed from the category

• The Rock My Forum article will need to be converted into a Ray William Johnson article

Feel free to make any other proposals in the future.

Announcing the wiki's new formatting guidelines for lists

Hello everyone.

The SiIvaGunner Wiki administrative team would like to announce that we now have written rules regrading the way lists are formatted as part of the wiki’s Manual of Style. These new rules will come into effect starting today.

How will this effect existing lists?

All existing lists will need to be updated to match the new rules if they don’t already. This process will likely take about a week.

Why has this been done?

The main reason why this was decided is because the wiki previously did not have any specific rules regarding the way lists are formatted. The result of this led to a lot of lists of the same type having wildly differing formatting, and we want the wiki to be consistent to make it easier to understand and navigate.

In addition to this, we have wanted to make an update to the way lists of contributions are formatted for quite a while now, and we figured this would give us a great opportunity to make these changes as part of the manual of style as well.

Some types of lists are missing from this, why is that?

We want to focus on just the lists for uploads and contributions for now. The reason for this is because we feel this is a pretty big change for the wiki and would like to implement it in gradual chunks instead of doing it all at once.

I personally don't think it's needed due to how insignificant most of these side story projects are when it comes to the channel's main content.

In addition, I'd argue we have too many character pages already, especially since a lot of them are characters that don't have much appearances on the channel to begin with, with Sens, Felix and HH being good examples. Heck, the first two's articles straight up say that they hardly appear in rips in the first place.

You just leave the playlist part of the submission blank. You don't need to make a thumbnail yourself, that tends to be done by the team.

I really don't think this category is necessary. Mainly because I feel that games that are frequently ripped are a lot less notable then certain tracks being ripped a lot.

In addition, I also think making the criteria of having over 100 rips has issues since there are some games that have soundtracks with over 100 tracks on them. Such as MOTHER 3 and Undertale.

Also, please start a discussion on creating something like a new category before you make it in future.

We really don't need that. This wiki is supposed to be focused on documenting the channel's content first and foremost. Creating categories for images that are tied to random forum posts and sandbox projects that don't end up contributing to the wiki's actual purpose would be really pointless to me.

While I can understand wanting to make more images to be in a category, I really don't think the places you listed need to be part of one.

I personally don't think the template is needed at all. The wiki already has a joke page category and most articles in it are fairly obvious in being written in a humorous style.

It does apply to non-articles as well.

I don't think we need a rename template. Editors can request articles to be renamed in the same way they feel certain articles should be deleted; by starting a discussion on the forum or in the discord server.

Regarding the candidates for deletion tag

I and the other staff members have recently noticed an increase in the number of times the candidates for deletion tag has been used. While in general this is fine, we feel that the tag has been used inappropriately in a number of cases. We feel we need to clarify the tag’s main use.

The tag is only supposed to be used in cases of obvious vandalism, and when a page is being actively discussed and considered for deletion.

From now on, editors will not be allowed to place the tag on articles they want to be deleted. Instead, they will need to start a discussion about the articles they wish to be removed in either the forums or the discord server.

To me, the amount of maintenance this would require isn't worth it. As overcast stated, even if this was fully automated, it would still require frequent checking to see if any false positives and errors occur.

Additionally, I really don't think this wiki needs something like that. We're not Wikipedia, we're a small wiki covering a niche subject. We don't need to link every song used on the channel back to the list when you can easily just click on the top navagation bar to read the different subpages of the list of songs.

The whole thing would just be an absurd amount of effort for something that has little benefit.

This would be very pointless. Those types of rips are still mashups and I feel making a distinction between the two would needlessly complicate things without giving any actual benefit when it comes to organisation.
