A channel event dedicated to the fifteenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks occurred on the SiIvaGunner channel in 2016.

Summary[]

Although the event was already planned beforehand, it happened to occur just as the Green de la Bean meme controversy hit its apex; September 10 was Bean Mourning Day, when the SiIvaGunner team spitefully responded with rips, including several intentionally-bad rips of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, mourning the "death" of Green de la Bean after fans flagged the rip "Ground Theme (Super Mario Bros.) - Super Smash Bros. Brawl", causing the rip to be removed and a community guidelines strike to be placed on the channel.

As a result, the already-upset viewerbase was especially upset by the discourteous nature of this event. In the end, the backlash to the event was so extreme that it was cancelled partway through. The channel published 16 rips simultaneously at around 9:30 AM PST, followed 30 minutes later by a mass deletion of all the rips uploaded on that day, including two rips unrelated to the event. The Flustered Fernando channel was then created to host the 9/11-related rips, though the in-universe SiIvaGunner claimed to have never uploaded them.[1] After the mass removal, channel uploads were halted until the Kotori Minami's Birthday event the next day.

Theme[]

The Bane avatar used after the removal of the 9/11 rips.

The channel's avatar was made overly patriotic, with a transparent United States flag added over, Osama bin Laden's beard edited onto SiIvaGunner, and a tearful bald eagle added beside him. The banner was changed to have the Tengami lighthouse duplicated, standing in for the Twin Towers, with Green de la Bean and The Jetsons added to appear to be crashing into them, and the CIA agent from The Dark Knight Rises added in the middle, referencing Baneposting and the line "Crashing this plane... with no survivors!" spoken by Bane in the prologue scene of the film.

After the event was cancelled, the avatar and banner were changed to exclusively reference Baneposting: the avatar was changed to an image of Bane from the aforementioned scene, while the banner was changed a stretched edited version of an image of the CIA agent taken from a tweet by Triple-Q.[2] The @GiIvaSunner Twitter account also posted a link to a YouTube upload of the prologue scene from The Dark Knight Rises during the event.[3]

Rips uploaded[]

All but two rips uploaded on 9/11 were related to the event. Several rips used direct footage of the attacks, though most only featured more indirect references, such as jokes related to towers or the United States in general, most prominently the US national anthem and the American Dad! theme song.

This event also sees the debut of The Jetsons on SiIvaGunner (not counting "(APRIL FOOLS REMIX) Future Stage (The Jetsons) - The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy"), with several rips featuring the theme song as well as rips of The Jetsons video games being uploaded. The exact connection between The Jetsons and 9/11 is unknown, but it is known that the SiIvaGunner team decided to use The Jetsons only on 9/11 several months in advance,[4][5] and The Jetsons was originally going to be the sole focus of the 9/11 event.[6] Two possible connections are the name of George Jetson referring to George Bush (the acting U.S. president during 9/11), or simply because of the word "jet". Because of this event, The Jetsons remains banned from being referenced in rips to this day.

September 12 (Flustered Fernando)[]

Several videos were uploaded on Flustered Fernando on September 12 without previously having been uploaded on the SiIvaGunner channel. They were uploaded alongside reuploads of the rips that had been removed from SiIvaGunner the previous day. They were likely intended to be uploaded on SiIvaGunner prior to the event's cancellation.
