April Fools' Day 2024 was celebrated on the SiIvaGunner channel with a channel event on April 1, 2024.

Summary[]

Instead of high quality video game rips, all uploads advertised themselves as various common types of music edit-related YouTube videos, primarily edits of songs that tend to go viral despite having a relatively simple premise or being fairly low-effort. Some videos were direct references to other music-based content creators. Titles, thumbnails, and descriptions were not consistent between videos. Most titles had the "X but Y" convention common for these types of videos.

A few uploads into the event, The Joke-Explainer™ 7000 explained in a community post that she was testing out more optimal upload formats for the YouTube algorithm. The Joke-Explainer™ 7000 also commented on several of the event's uploads, in most cases simply re-explaining the video's title or leaving generic engagement-bait comments instead of explaining the video content.

About two-thirds of the way through the first day of the event, the channel avatar changed to a version with the stretched Mario face from Super Mario 64, then to a version parodying the thumbnails of "swapped beats" videos. On April 2nd, the avatar was changed again, adding the TunesToTube.com border around The Joke-Explainer™ 7000, and later to a visual filter seen in vocoded videos.

Near the start of the event, the video "Ocarina of Jerry Temporary" was made the featured video for returning subscribers. It was later changed to the rip "Slider (Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack) - Super Mario 64", retitled to "WELCOME TO THE CITY but it's in the Super Mario 64 soundfont".

After the rip "Bob-Omb Battlefield but in the SM64 Soundfont", The Joke-Explainer™ 7000 made a community post, stating that the change in formatting was a success, and that it would stay on the channel and the uploads would resume after a short break. About 2 hours later, the rip "Mad Mew Mew (Beta Version) - Undertale" was published, making viewers believe the regular video format returned. However, about an hour after that rip was uploaded, more rips of music edits were published, continuing the April Fools' event.

During the premiere of "Take On Me but it's in the Super Mario 64 Soundfont (Music Video)", the banner was changed to include Pomni, Boykisser, Gegagedigedagedago, and Brainless Kitty; it was quickly reverted back to normal. Around the same time, a playlist dedicated to the rips uploaded during the event was created titled "Uploads from SiIvaGunner, But Something's Wrong....", which was advertised with a community post advertising that the channel's regular uploads would resume on April 5th (however, they returned a day earlier).

Alongside various community posts on YouTube, the SiIvaGunner Twitter account also retweeted a post from January 18, 2024: "Anyone got that one SiIvaGunner clip?"^[1]

Rips uploaded[]

In keeping with the bait-and-switch nature of SiIvaGunner, every upload featured other jokes not referenced in the title and thumbnail, often outright contradicting what they promise.

Types of videos referenced include:

Midi swaps, most frequently using instruments from Super Mario 64 due to that soundfont being ubiquitous in the genre.
Songs edited to have effects and/or environmental noises mimicing a certain location or situation (i.e. underwater, in the bathroom at a party, etc.).
Songs edited to be in the opposite of its original scale (i.e. a major key song in minor or vice versa).
Songs edited to be in other time signatures.
Songs edited to remove or swap beats or replace beats with other songs.
Songs used as a prompt for AI generated audio.
Songs cut down to the uploader's favourite parts.
Mashups, YTPMVs, or other edits using tired mainstream memes or simplistically-synced rap songs.
Videos of or featuring one or more of the following:
- "Stuck Inside"
- "Buddy Holly"
- "Mii Channel" and/or "Wii Shop Channel", with several rips also referring to them as "Wii Theme".
- Various songs from Undertale and/or Deltarune, with a focus on "Megalovania".
- Sources related to Boykisser
- Gegagedigedagedago
- The Amazing Digital Circus

There were also several rips that featured the Brainless Kitty.

The descriptions also referenced several common themes in the types of videos parodied:

Tangential commentary related to the songs featured in the video or the uploader's life.
A list containing Patreon supporters of the channel, though some lists didn't name any.
Various forms of noting that no copyright was intended on the video.
Various hashtags, usually based on the title and related topics.
Source lists of all the songs that would be featured in the "original" video.
A tags section that would also appear in the keywords.
SiIvaGunner's social media links, with the focus being the Discord server.
Asking people to like the video, subscribe to the channel, and/or comment on the video.
- The subscribe link in the description would also sometimes include "?sub_confirmation=1" at the end of it.

	You may have noticed that today's uploads so far have had highly unusual titles and descriptions. Do not be alarmed, everything is completely intentional on my part! Based on YouTube's click-through rate analytics, it seems that this format of video is optimal for a channel in SiIvaGunner's niche to succeed to its fullest potential. So, to keep the channel healthy and fresh, I'll be trying out these different upload formats for a little while. I'd love to know what you think of this change, as it may become permanent in the future!
