"Athletic Theme (PAL Version) - Super Mario World" is a high quality rip of the PAL version of "Athletic Theme" from Super Mario World.
Jokes[]
At 0:13, the melody changes to the Cartoons cover of "Witch Doctor" by David Seville, with the song's saxophone melody being played using Super Mario World's steel drum instrument from 0:25 to 0:37. At 0:48, when the rip is about to loop, it suddenly becomes a mashup with the aforementioned cover of "Witch Doctor" while still retaining the melody change.
The original advertised track already bore a more than passing resemblance to "Witch Doctor", and comparisons had been drawn between the two long before this rip was made. For example, the mashup "Witch doctor steals from Super Mario World" was uploaded to YouTube by Adolffan95 in October 2010, and the mashup "Witch Yo'ster" was uploaded to YouTube by spade in February 2012.
History[]
This rip was originally uploaded to GiIvaSunner on March 24, 2016,[1] as "Athletic (Beta Mix) - Super Mario World".[2] Following the GiIvaSunner Termination, it would be reuploaded to SiIvaGunner on April 22, 2016, as "Athletic (PAL Version) - Super Mario World". Around the start of September 2017, it was renamed again to match GilvaSunner's metadata, and the thumbnail was also changed.
On July 30, 2017, this rip became the 4th rip on the SiIvaGunner channel to reach 1 million views. It was the channel's 4th most watched video for a long time until it surpassed "Nintendo GameCube Startup - Console BIOS/Startup Fanfare" on August 25, 2017, and became the 3rd. In January 2018, it surpassed "Title Theme & Ending - 7 GRAND DAD", becoming the 2nd most viewed video. During the SiIvaGunner Termination, the rip was reuploaded to SiIvaGunner2 as part of a mass reuploading of classic rips to celebrate SiIvaGunner's third anniversary.[3] As with the other reuploads, it was unlisted when the main channel came back. By May 31, 2019, the rip had become the most viewed video on the SiIvaGunner channel, having accumulated over 8.1 million views as of March 14, 2024.
