"Burger King Foot Lettuce" refers to the meme centered around both a scandal of a 4chan user working at a Burger King standing in two bins of lettuce and the subsequent coverage of the event by the YouTube channel Top15s for its stilted and creepy-sounding narration from the channel's creator, Chills. This has also become a minor meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.

History[]

4chan post[1][]

On July 16, 2012, an image was uploaded to 4chan by an anonymous user claiming to be a Burger King employee standing in a bin of lettuce with his shoes on, alongside the caption: "This is the lettuce you eat at Burger King."

The location of the Burger King franchise where the photo was taken was quickly identified as being located in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, via the use of EXIF geoloaction information embedded in the image. Local news outlets began visiting the franchise after being alerted by 4chan users, and the employee in question was fired after they were identified by the franchise's manager.[2]

Top15s[1][]

On November 11, 2017, a video titled “Top 15 Mysteries Solved by 4Chan” was uploaded to YouTube by Top15s, a channel dedicated to posting countdown lists of various topics. People on the internet found the speaker's monotonous, yet creepy tone and cadence as well as the channel's spooky background music out-of-place and awkward, prompting many to make remixes using the video and the transcript of the segment:

Number 15: Burger king foot lettuce. The last thing you'd want in your Burger King burger is someone's foot fungus. But as it turns out, that might be what you get. A 4channer uploaded a photo anonymously to the site showcasing his feet in a plastic bin of lettuce. With the statement: "This is the lettuce you eat at Burger King." Admittedly, he had shoes on, but that's even worse.

The post went live at 11:38 PM on July 16, and a mere 20 minutes later, the Burger King in question was alerted to the rogue employee. At least, I hope he's rogue. How did it happen? Well, the BK employee hadn't removed the Exif data from the uploaded photo, which suggested the culprit was somewhere in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. This was at 11:47. Three minutes later at 11:50, the Burger King branch address was posted with wishes of happy unemployment. 5 minutes later, the news station was contacted by another 4channer. And three minutes later, at 11:58, a link was posted: BK's "Tell us about us" online forum. The foot photo, otherwise known as exhibit A, was attached. Cleveland Scene Magazine contacted the BK in question the next day. When questioned, the breakfast shift manager said "Oh, I know who that is. He's getting fired." Mystery solved, by 4chan. Now we can all go back to eating our fast food in peace.

The first rip to feature the meme was "ONBS Broadcast - Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness". Later, the meme started to see more use around the channel. The meme is usually used in various ways, such as, but not limited to, pitch-shifting Chills voice, the voice of Chills reading the text unedited, or a image of the "Burger King Foot Lettuce". One of the notable rips to feature the meme is "Sayo-nara (Unused Reveal Mix) - Doki Doki Literature Club!", an edit of Etika's reaction to a scene in the game featuring a glitchy version of the Burger King Foot Lettuce video.
