"Calamari Inkantation" is a song from Splatoon and a minor meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.
Description[]
"Calamari Inkantation" is a J-pop-style song composed by Splatoon series composer Shiho Fujii and performed by keity.pop and Mari Kikuma. In-universe, it is a remix of an in-universe folk song called "Chorus of Calamari County", performed by the Squid Sisters duo, Callie and Marie.
The song plays during the final phase of the fight against DJ Octavio during the last level, "Enter the Octobot King!" of Splatoon's single-player campaign Octo Valley. Callie and Marie, previously masquerading as Agent 1 and Agent 2 respectively, unveil themselves at the start of the final phase of the battle, overriding the previous boss theme, "I Am Octavio". As shown in Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion, the song would influence many Octolings to leave their underground homes to live on the surface. Some of these individuals included Marina, future member of Off the Hook from Splatoon 2 and Agent 8, protagonist of Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion.
In Splatoon 2, the song received a remix, titled "Spicy Calamari Inkantation" that, similar to the original, plays during the final phase of the fight against DJ Octavio in the game's single-player campaign. The remix includes more electronic elements and quotes "City of Color" from Splatoon during its instrumental break. The original "Calamari Inkantation" also appears in Octo Expansion during the fight against Inner Agent 3.
The song received another remix in Splatoon 3 called "Calamari Inkantation 3MIX", performed in-universe in collaboration with Deep Cut, once again played during the final battle. This remix has an intro similar to "Spicy Calamari Inkantation", albeit far longer to accommodate the battle's cutscene. It also features instruments associated with Deep Cut, matching their style of Japanese, Indian, and Brazilian-inspired music.
Rips[]
The song is usually used in medley rips via melody change, typically quoting its simple, iconic first few measures.
It notably received several remixes in the King for a Day series; "Ebb & Flow Inkantation" and "Spiciest Calamari Inkantation" in the King for a Day Tournament, and "Calamari Inkantation" and "Ebb n' Flow Inkantation Reloaded" in the King for Another Day Tournament.
