Character-dedicated "Snow halation" rips are a sub-type of rips featuring "Snow halation" on the SiIvaGunner channel. Initially created to celebrate the birthdays of members of µ's, these rips have since been used to celebrate various characters, people, and special occasions.
During Season 1, the Nozomi Tojo's Birthday event started a trend of celebrating the birthday of each member of µ's. Each time, there would be a mashup using their solo version of "Snow halation" and another song's vocals. These rips also had a similar visual format: the stage where μ's performs "Snow halation" pans down, and the relevant character appears on the right side.
In Season 2, the rips "Cossack Sandvich - Team Fortress 2" and "Smooth - Guitar Hero II" expanded the trend beyond members of µ's, introducing some extra visual elements to the format as well. Since then, many channel events, especially those celebrating birthdays or anniversaries, have had a dedicated "Snow halation" mashup using the same visual format, typically being one of the last rips of the event. Nearly every appearance of "Snow halation"'s instrumental since 2018 has been a direct use or variant of this visual format.
Some µ's members did not receive dedicated rips in Season 1 due to their birthdays predating the creation of the format (Hanayo, Umi, and Maki) or their birthdays falling after the Season 1 Finale (Rin and Eli). Hanayo's and Umi's birthdays were celebrated in 2017 as they would normally fall, while Maki's, Rin's, and Eli's birthdays didn't receive proper channel events, and their "Snow halation" solo rips were instead uploaded on the 2017 occurrences of Nozomi's, Nico's, and Kotori's birthdays respectively. However, there were events for Maki's birthday in 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Format[]
The visual format of these rips uses the first shot of the "Snow halation" music video, where it pans down from the sky and lands with the stage in center; this shot is taken as a stitched still and panned down manually while fading in from black, reaching the bottom at around 0:10 when the introduction to the song is finished, and the first verse is about to start. At the same time, a still of a character relevant to the mashup, which is usually placed on the right side of the video, fades in from transparency between 0:07-0:10. Once these two animations finish, the image typically holds still for the majority of the mashup. At 3:10, when the third chorus begins, the background image will often change to show the stage with yellow lights, matching the music video where the lights change color at that point. In addition to this, most rips will show an animated overlay of snow falling throughout the entire video.
Several rips in this series change the video description catchphrase into a fictitious quote by someone related to the rip, which always starts with "Because I love". This is a reference to the first nine rips of "Snow halation" on SiIvaGunner (found in the Love Live! School idol festival playlist); in each of these rips, the catchphrase is a quote of this nature, where each member of µ's says she loves to read the channel description. This is itself a reference to Love Live! episode "Melody of the Heart", where each member says a "Because I love ___" line before the performance of "Snow halation". Incidentally, "Snow halation - Love Live!", the ninth rip (with Nozomi's quote), features the "Snow halation" stage and is edited similarly to the rips in this series, but does not have a featured character.
