"Crank Dat Super Mario" is a comedy rap song with Nintendo-themed lyrics, composed and performed by the Crank Squad. It is also a meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.

History

After the success of "Crank That", which name-drops Superman in the lyric 'Superman that ho', several different knockoff songs emerged that changed this pop culture reference to another character, usually in a comedic manner. The song "Crank Dat Super Mario" falls into this category of parodies, the song's chorus being 'Super Mario that ho'. It is somewhat unique among the knockoffs however as, apart from that lyric, it is actually based on the D4L songs "Tattoo" and "Laffy Taffy".

As an unlicensed parody song, "Crank Dat Super Mario" was never formally released. The earliest surviving video to feature this song was uploaded to YouTube by user Kama Harris on July 10, 2007. The song is credited to "Crank Squad", a group that made other "Crank That" parodies. The group itself is very mysterious, having almost no information online.

Similarly to the original "Crank That", "Crank Dat Super Mario" can easily be recreated and remixed due to its use of generic and easily obtainable synths, as most rips featuring the meme use its melody or instruments. The first rip to feature "Crank Dat Super Mario" was "Bad Apple!! (Alternative Version) - Touhou 4: Lotus Land Story", which was published on October 9, 2018 as part of the Unregistered HyperCam 2 Takeover. In 2020, the song was very heavily used on MAR10 Day, being utilized in 27 rips from that event, and since then, it became a very frequent meme on the channel. Prior to that event, it had at least 8 appearances.
