"Dat Boi", sometimes refering as "here come dat boi!!!!!! o shit waddup!", is a phrase meme that originated of a photoshopped image by FunnyJunk user tehbestever in July 2014, in which the image depicts a boy called "Dat Boi" as the "most wanted criminal arrested". In June 2015, a (now defunct) Tumblr account known as Phalania would post a Tumblr post with the title as "here comes that boi!!", followed by a reblog post captioned "o shit waddup!", containing a screenshot of Pac-Man from the "Here Comes Pacman" video.[1]
On April 3, 2016, the phrase would be utilized on a meme posted on the (now defunct) Facebook group page Fresh Memes About the Mojave Desert and Other Delectable Cuisines, a page dedicated to posting memes. The meme in question shows a frog, above on a unicycle, with the caption "here come dat boi!!!!!! / o shit waddup!". The the frog seen on the image is a clip art originating from the website Animation Factory. The site is dedicated to selling various clip arts as free use for PowerPoint projects and other uses, covered by a 1-year subscription since 1996.
One of the clip arts available was the Frog Unicycle, being the origin of the character Dat Boi.[2] The clip art would also be included in the third release in a series of collections called Animation Factory - Essential Collection. By 2016, several memes would circulate referencing both the phrase in Phalania's post and Dat Boi's original Facebook image. In April of the same year, the Tumblr account Browse Dank Memes would post two dank memes related to Dat Boi. And by June, the meme would be featured in several publications, as well as on several Facebook pages dedicated to the meme at the time.
On May 3, 2016, YouTuber ZimoNitrome would release the video "dat boi!!!!". The video features the lyrics of the meme phrase within the instrumental of "Crank That" playing at the background. As of June 2017, the video has reached over 8 million views. On May 8 of the same year, composer and YouTuber Cutman Plays!, also known as Dj Cutman, would publish a trap music video called as "Dat Boi (O Shit Waddup!)".
Since then, Dat Boi has been considered one of the classic memes of the 2010s, and has received several videos and memes. As well including two revivals of the meme on 2017 within the Reddit Renaissance and the Me_Irl Revival.
Rips[]
The first rip featuring anything related to Dat Boi was "Stage Theme - Frogger" on July 28, 2016. This rip features "dat boi!!!!" by ZimoNitrome, which is a parody of "Crank That" and is the most frequently used source relating to Dat Boi. Most rips referencing Dat Boi are mashups with either that song or "Dat Boi (O Shit Waddup!)" by Dj CUTMAN. As a character, the first appearance was "Evolution - Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen" on January 8, 2017, in which Grand Dad evolves into Dat Boi thanks to the player pressing the B button.
During the SiIvaSummer All-Star Festival, a Dat Boi-themed event was held on Soulja Boy's 30th birthday. Its rips were dedicated to Dat Boi, especially "dat boi!!!!" by ZimoNitrome.
