Etika

Desmond Amofah, more commonly known as Etika, was a YouTuber known for creating live streams, reaction videos, let's plays, and other video game-related content.

His reaction videos have since become a minor meme on the SiIvaGunner channel. His YouTube channel, followed by his social media accounts, were removed on October 26, 2018. He then owned a new channel under the name of EtikaFRFX, which was removed as well on April 16, 2019. Finally, he owned two channels being TR1Iceman from his old channel and E Live for livestreams.

Etika was a competitor in the King for a Day Tournament. He was selected by the SiIvaGunner backroom.

Background

On July 16, 2012, Etika created a YouTube channel under the username "EWNetwork", short for "Etika World Network". He originally posted videos of him discussing video game-related news stories. He then gained notoriety in 2014 and 2015 after he posted several videos to his YouTube channel where he would react to announcement videos by Nintendo regarding the games Super Smash Bros. 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

The most viewed video on Etika's channel was a video that was uploaded on October 23, 2014 titled "MEWTWO DLC REVEAL!!! Etika's First Time Reaction to it!!! "MY D**K" TURN DOWN VOLUME", which shows Etika's reaction to Nintendo announcing that Mewtwo will be a downloadable DLC character in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. Surprisingly, this video was shared on Twitter by Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the Super Smash Bros. series.

Etika went missing on June 19, 2019. His death was confirmed on June 25.

Some of Etika's reaction videos have been used in rips on the SiIvaGunner channel. The first rip to do this was "Battle! (Mewtwo) - Pokémon X & Y" by PinkieOats, which used footage from Etika's Mewtwo reaction video.

Etika King for a Day Tournament

Revealed as the last fighter on July 27, 2018 (as a bait-and-switch for popular pick Monika), Etika appeared in the King for a Day Tournament with the other 15 contestants. His rips would involve himself and his reactions, edited or otherwise, original Super Smash Bros. songs, and other related rips such as "We Dem Boyz," the Brooklyn Nets theme, or rips featuring some of his favourite characters.

On July 29, Etika went up against DJ Professor K in his first match, and the second match of the whole tournament. The next day, it was announced that Etika won by 64%, kicking the Professor out of the tournament. He would later battle King Dedede in the 2nd round on August 2, which he lost at 44%.

King for Another Day Tournament

Etika was initially confirmed to return for the King for Another Day Tournament in "Reveal Trailer - SiIvaGunner: King for Another Day Tournament", joining Reggie Fils-Aimé to become a team contestant known as the Joy-Con Men. However, following a series of events concerning his mental health, the team announced in "SiIva Direct • SiIva Lighthouse Live ∣ E3 2019" that his character would be removed due to concerns that unwanted attention stemming from the tournament could negatively affect his well-being. "SiIvaGunner: King for Another Day Tournament Direct 9.21.2019" later announced that Etika's place in the tournament would be filled by Bill Trinen, and the Joy-Con Men would appropriately be renamed Nintendo Power.

After Etika's passing, a tribute arrangement, "Lifelight", was released, and the tournament was dedicated to him and Marrow.

Trivia

  • Etika was the only character to defeat DJ Professor K, who went on to become the undefeated champion in the King for Another Day Tournament.
  • The background art in King for Another Day is shaped as the letter "E", referencing Etika's logo.
  • The shadow in King for Another Day seems to resemble the Nintendo Switch logo, this is a reference to the way he dubs his fans known as the "Joy-Con Boyz", named after the said console's controller Joy-Con.
  • Etika in real life had acknowledged his inclusion in the King for a Day Tournament, showing he had received a poster made for the event, and mentioned being given a physical copy of STRINGS OF FATE.[1]
