"Flowering Night" is a track from Touhou 9: Phantasmagoria of Flower View and a minor Touhou Project meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.
History[]
"Flowering Night" first appeared in Touhou 9: Phantasmagoria of Flower View which was released on August 14th, 2005. The track is one of the themes for the character Sakuya Izayoi throughout the Touhou Project series. Similarly to other Touhou Project memes such as "Bad Apple!!" and "U.N. Owen Was Her?", it is one of the most popular themes from the series, but is mostly known outside of the Touhou Project fanbase through popular fan-made remixes.
Night of Nights[]
One of the most well-known version of "Flowering Night" is "Night of Nights" (ナイト・オブ・ナイツ, occasionally rendered as iterations of "Knight of Knights"), a fast-paced hardcore techno remix by beatMARIO. While primarily based on "Flowering Night", the remix incorporates motifs from "Lunar Clock ~ Luna Dial", another track associated with Sakuya Izayoi from Touhou 6: the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.
Originally released at Reitaisai 4 on May 20, 2007 as a guest arrangement to the album 花詠束 -hanataba- by doujin circle Unionest.NET, the remix has since received many subsequent remixes from various independent artists as well as beatMARIO (as COOL&CREATE). "Night of Nights" has been the subject of numerous YTPMVs and 音MAD videos, extending far past the reach of the Touhou Project fanbase.
Rips[]
The earliest rip to feature "Flowering Night" as a joke is "Pause Screen - Wario World" which was uploaded on July 6th, 2016. The very next rip to feature it, "She's in a temper!! - Touhou 2: Story of Eastern Wonderland", was uploaded on August 17th the same year and would be an arrangement based on "Night of Nights" by beatMARIO / COOL&CREATE, serving as the first appearance of the remix on the channel. The song would be most prominent in rips during Season 2, but still has received gradual usage over the years.
Multiple rips of the track "Flowering Night" are switcheroos featuring the beatMARIO remix, including "Flowering Night (US Version) - Touhou 9: Phantasmagoria of Flower View", a remaster of a YTPMV of the remix and the final rip of the OCTOBER FIRST event.
