The song became iconic and synonymous with the film, and has been used or remixed for almost all media pertaining to the franchise to date, including the film's 2016 reboot.
It went on to be referenced in various media, most often the lyrics "Who you gonna call?" and "I ain't 'fraid of no ghost". The song has also often been referenced for innuendo about "busting", such as in Neil Cicierega's remix "Bustin".
The first appearance of the song as a joke was "One Minute To Win It! - Disney Infinity" on March 11, 2016. Since then, the song has appeared in rips fairly often, most frequently during Halloween events and in medley rips. The original song has been itself ripped via its appearance in Ghostbusters: The Video Game.
