"Gourmet Race" is a track composed by Kirby series' long time composer Jun Ishikawa and was first used in Kirby Super Star in the mini-game "Gourmet Race"[1]. It appeared in this mode's first and third levels, Pumpkin Grand and Onion Garden, while the second one, Corn Hall, features "Hilltop Chase" (which is usually omitted). It is an upbeat ska piece playing while Kirby and King Dedede compete in the titular event, a mix between a race and an "all-you-can-eat" competition.
This track has been reused in numerous other Kirby games, usually for mini-games or Dedede related levels, as well as the Super Smash Bros. series, being the theme of Dream Land in the original one and of Fountain of Dreams in Super Smash Bros. Melee in an orchestral rendition. These appearances grandly contributed to the mainstream popularity of the song, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land even paying homage to Melee by using a chiptune version of the orchestral rendition for the fight against King Dedede on the Fountain of Dreams. The track's trumpets are usually associated with Dedede, and the flutes are usually associated with Kirby.
There are currently 36 high quality rips of "Gourmet Race" on the channel, with most of them coming from Kirby Super Star. Two fusion collabs of the song have been released, the Gourmet Race Fusion Collab in 2016 (being more mashup / meme focused), and the High-Quality Gourmet Race Fusion Collab in 2021 (being more focused on original arrangements).
Notably, several "Gourmet Race" rips have the same joke.
Three rips from Kirby Super Star feature Soulja Boy.
