Grand Dad is a bootleg version of Super Mario that appeared on the title screen of 7 GRAND DAD. On SiIvaGunner, he appears as one of the main mascots of the channel, and the personification of the 7 GRAND DAD and "Meet the Flintstones" memes.
Characteristics[]
Grand Dad's most common appearance is based on the sprite used in the 7 GRAND DAD title screen, being a recolored and slightly deformed version of Mario from the Super Mario franchise. The sprite is usually interpreted as having a red cap with a pink visor, a red shirt, pink overalls, white boots and gloves, blank white skin, blue hair and mustache, eyes with pink sclera and blue pupils, and a blue mouth with red teeth. Instead of an "M", his cap features the Chinese character "wáng" (王), a common Chinese surname. His proportions are also usually depicted similar to those of the sprite, though a bit thinner. Rarely, he'll appear with Mario's normal proportions.
On the SiIvaGunner channel, he is mainly used as a mascot character and does not have a defined personality. During the Mashup Crusaders Arc, he was depicted as only being able to say "Fleentstones!?" (using Joel's voice to do so). In The SilvaGunner Christmas Comeback Crisis, he shows great strength in combat, but he has not spoken yet.
Second form[]
Grand Dad is also sometimes represented by a different form, based on the playable character in 7 GRAND DAD rather than the sprite seen on the title screen. It is an edited version of the sprites of Fred Flintstone from The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy, with Mario's head from Super Mario Bros. 3 crudely superimposed over the body.
Despite the drastically different appearance, this is presumably supposed to be the same character as the more traditional Grand Dad. In videos where both forms appear they are used interchangeably, for example "This announcement is not on YouTube." primarily features the second form, but then uses the main form for a single shot when Grand Dad tells Dr. Butler "fuck you". The one exception to this so far is "SiIvaGunner SmashUp!", where the second form of Grand Dad appears separately and is referred to by the commentators as '8 Grand Dad'.
History[]
The Super Mario lookalike character first appeared in the bootleg Taiwanese Famicom game Dian Shi Ma Li (電視瑪琍, lit. "Television Mari", also titled Big TV Mary Bar), developed by Bit Corp. and published by Fiver Firm (masquerading as "Namco Corporation") in 1989. His original color scheme was similar to Mario's. He had a red cap with a cyan visor, a red shirt, cyan overalls, white boots and gloves, white skin, black hair and moustache, cyan eyes, and a red mouth. He was nicknamed "Fortran" after people on the internet discovered the bootleg, after an unused string of text found in the game, as well as the "F" on his cap instead of an "M" like on Mario's cap.
The same sprite, but with different color schemes, was stolen and used by at least two other bootleg games prior to 7 GRAND DAD: Mario IV, a hack of the NES game Armadillo, and Mario Fighter III, a hack of an unlicensed NES port of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. The sprite was altered to change the "F" to "王" in all three games. Due to NES color palette limitations, the sprite uses different colors in each game, specifically whatever colors were used for the original sprites. As such, although all three games use the sprite, 7 GRAND DAD is the only one with Grand Dad's specific color scheme.
Malleo and Weegee[]
The relatively short-lived "Weegee fad" of 2008-2009, based around Weegee meme,[2] saw Fortran become one of its major characters, being one of the first characters made for the fad. This version of Fortran was commonly characterized as the father of Malleo and Weegee, and was also commonly depicted alongside a Luigi lookalike similar to Fortran named Ragamiicho. Ultimately, this fad would mostly fade into obscurity, though it gave Fortran a boost in popularity, thus bringing more attention to Dian Shi Ma Li. There is at least one known instance of 7 GRAND DAD and Grand Dad as a character being referenced in this time, though the link has since gone defunct.[3][4]
Vinesauce[]
- Main article: Joel's reaction to 7 GRAND DAD
After Vinesauce Joel played 7 GRAND DAD, his reaction became a running inside joke among Joel's fans, who also nicknamed the character "Grand Dad". Grand Dad soon became the subject of numerous pieces of fan art and fan games created by the Vinesauce community. Interestingly, Grand Dad is characterized as an evil psychotic murderer in Vinesauce lore, unlike his friendly and heroic role in both 7 GRAND DAD and in SiIvaGunner lore. Nowadays, whenever Joel finds Grand Dad he attempts to avoid it, since he thinks it's a dead meme.
Rips[]

Grand Dad was featured in the very first high quality rip, "Wild Pokémon Battle - Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire", uploaded on the GiIvaSunner channel on January 9, 2016. Since then, he has been treated as not only a personification of the 7 GRAND DAD meme, but also a mascot of sorts for the SiIvaGunner channel, and is always featured inside the lighthouse on the standard banners outside of channel events. He has also been featured on several album covers and rips, albeit many of these appearances just being by proxy of the 7 GRAND DAD title screen.
Curiously, despite his significance to SiIvaGunner, Grand Dad has never played a major part in the channel lore; the role of protagonist has instead been given to Chad Warden in SilvaGunner: Rebooted and Smol Nozomi in The SilvaGunner Christmas Comeback Crisis, both of whom represent "Snow halation", the second most prominent channel meme. Grand Dad is mostly only featured in "story" videos with unclear canonicity such as "Slot Machine (Beta Mix) - Star Fox", "Story Clear! - Love Live! School idol festival", and "PRESENTATION ANNOUNCEMENT" (where, oddly enough, he is portrayed as being SiIvaGunner).
His first appearance in a main lore video was "A Grand New Era ~Ending~ - SilvaGunner: Rebooted", though he was just part of the graphic announcing the end of the event. Afterwards, he appeared in two videos for the Mashup Crusaders Arc, namely "Main Theme - Looney Tunes" and "Main Theme (Beta Mix) - Looney Tunes". In these videos, he is depicted as a friendly citizen who only says "FLEENSTONES!?", which is perfectly effective for communicating with Mr Rental. He was also referenced by name in "Main Theme (Demo) - Looney Tunes", where Mr Rental recognized Grand Dad as an important figure (despite interacting with Grand Dad like he's a normal citizen in the other two videos).
In the Christmas Comeback Crisis[]
In The SilvaGunner Christmas Comeback Crisis, Grand Dad was one of the first Figments to be released into Grandiose City, as seen in "Prologue". He then boarded the Halberd alongside Meta Knight and Loud Nigra, but went down with the ship when it was shot down by The Voice Inside Your Head.
In "One Last Chance", Grand Dad is revealed to have survived, but was captured by President Haltmann and placed into a vat which drains his energy. When he is found by Smol Nozomi and the other Figments, he cannot be removed. He later joins the other Figments in a battle against The Voice, with a blast from an energy gun sending him falling from the top of the tower, only to be saved by Haruka Amami. Grand Dad's pain results in SiIvaGunner, who "has a stronger connection to him than anyone else on this earth", awakening from his long sleep.
Grand Dad's appearance in "One Last Chance" was notably teased during the MAGFest 2018 SiIvaGunner Panel, being the only thing confirmed about the episode during the 6 year gap between it and "I Love Her".
