Grand Dad is a bootleg version of Super Mario that appeared on the title screen of 7 GRAND DAD. On the SiIvaGunner channel, he appears as his own character and acts as the personfiication of the 7 GRAND DAD meme.

The badly drawn Super Mario lookalike character, later nicknamed Fortran, first appeared in the bootleg Taiwanese Famicom game Diànshì Mǎlì (電視瑪琍, lit. "Television Mari", also titled Big TV Mary Bar), developed by Bit Corp. and published by Fiver Firm (masquerading as "Namco Corporation") in 1989. His original color scheme was similar to Mario's. He had a red cap with a cyan visor, a red shirt, cyan overalls, white boots and gloves, white skin, black hair and moustache, cyan eyes, and a red mouth. He had the letter "F" on his cap, instead of Mario's "M".

In 1992, a new character using the same design (just with a different color pallete) was given his infamous bootleg game 7 GRAND DAD. However, he only appeared on that game's title screen. He had a red cap with a pink visor, a red shirt, pink overalls, white boots and gloves, white skin, blue hair and mustache, salmon-colored eyes, and a blue-red mouth. Instead of an "F" (or an "M"), his cap featured the Chinese character "wáng" (王), a common Chinese surname.
The same sprite, but with different color schemes, also appears in bootleg games Mario IV (a hack of the NES game Armadillo), where the character was given the name Merio thanks to YouTuber MegaGWolf when reviewing Mario bootlegs on his show Pixelated Memories, who jokingly referred to him as that due to the name appearing in the bootleg remake of Super Mario Bros. 2 known as Super Bros. 5, another example is Hario from Mario Fighter III (a hack of a hack of an unlicensed NES port of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior) Hario's name comes from the heavily compressed text on the title screen saying Mario resembling the words, Hario. The former was actually possibly released in 1991, prior to 7 GRAND DAD's release in 1992, making it the first few rehashes of Fortran.
The relatively short-lived "Weegee fad" of 2008-2009, based around Weegee meme, saw Fortran become one of its major characters, being one of the first characters made for the fad. This version of Fortran was commonly characterized as the father of Malleo and Weegee, and was also commonly depicted alongside a Luigi lookalike similar to Fortran named Ragamiicho. Ultimately, this fad would, for the most part, fade into obscurity. However, it gave Fortran a boost in popularity, and thus many online would remember him and Dian Shi Ma Li. There is at least 1 known instance of 7 GRAND DAD and Grand Dad as a character being referenced in this time, though the link has since gone defunct.
- Main article: Joel's reaction to 7 GRAND DAD
After Vinesauce Joel played 7 GRAND DAD, his reaction became a running inside joke among Joel's fans. They also nicknamed the character "Grand Dad". Grand Dad soon became the subject of numerous pieces of fan art and fan games created by the Vinesauce community. Interestingly, Grand Dad is characterized as an evil psychotic murderer in Vinesauce lore, unlike his friendly and heroic role in both 7 GRAND DAD and in SiIvaGunner lore. Nowadays, whenever Joel finds Grand Dad he attempts to avoid it, thinking it's a dead meme.

Grand Dad was featured in the very first GiIvaSunner rip, Wild Pokémon Battle - Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire. Since then, he became somewhat of an unofficial mascot of the channel, and has appeared in a number of rips as a character.
During the Reboot, all the major memes on the channel were replaced by similar counterparts, including Grand Dad, who was replaced by Homer Simpson (representing The Simpsons) and Peter Griffin (representing Family Guy). His most major appearance was in the end of "A Grand New Era ~Ending~ - SilvaGunner: Rebooted", after the pre-reboot universe and the reboot universe were merged.
Grand Dad briefly appeared in "Prologue", where he was one of the first figments to be released into the real world. Alongside Meta Knight and Loud Nigra, he boarded the Halberd, but got shot down by The Voice before he could travel far. His current whereabouts are unknown. At the MAGFest 2018 SiIvaGunner Panel, it was confirmed that Grand Dad would make his debut in Episode 11 of the CCC.
Grand Dad is sometimes represented by a different form, based on the playable character in 7 GRAND DAD. It's basically the sprite of Fred Flintstone (from The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy) with Super Mario's head (from Super Mario Bros. 3). Despite the drastically different appearance, this is presumably supposed to be the same character as the more traditional Grand Dad, as there's no evidence that could suggest otherwise. A 3D version of him also appears in "PRESENTATION ANNOUNCEMENT".
