Hotel Mario is a puzzle video game in which the player controls Mario to search for Princess Toadstool. Mario travels through seven different hotels; each hotel is divided into stages, and the objective of each stage is to close all of the doors. Each hotel ends in a boss fight with one of Bowser's Koopalings, culminating in a battle with Bowser.
The game received mixed reviews upon release, and is commonly considered one of the worst video games due to its gameplay and cutscenes. Since as early as 2008, the game's notoriously bad cutscenes have featured in various YouTube Poops and other kinds of internet memes.
Rips that reference Hotel Mario musically most commonly feature the melody of "Main Menu/Map", which plays during the game's opening cutscene.
