The Howie scream is a frequently used stock sound effect for a scream in movies, television and video games. Its name originates from Howie Long's death scene in the 1996 crime film Broken Arrow, however, it was first used in the 1980 drama film The Ninth Configuration.

The Howie scream has made sparse appearances in multiple rips since it's a common stock sound effect. It first appeared in the pre-reboot medley rip "Final Destination - Super Smash Bros. Brawl".
During the reboot, the Howie scream replaced Loud Nigra (much like The Simpsons and Family Guy did to 7 GRAND DAD, and "GO MY WAY!!" did to "Snow halation").
In reality, Loud Nigra was not banned during the reboot, but the team had already been using Loud Nigra less often at that point, so much so that people actually thought it was gone and replaced by the Howie scream.[1] The team decided to incorporate the Howie scream into the lore in recognition of this.
