SiIvaGunner: King for a Day is an unlicensed media franchise which was produced and self-published by SiIvaGunner from 2018 to 2020 consisting mainly of music, but also including artwork and a website.

The franchise is contained within four channel events, two of which being the central King for a Day Tournament (2018) and King for Another Day Tournament (2019). Both events were focused on releasing original arrangements dedicated to a variety of characters, and having fans vote in a bracket tournament for which character should have their own takeover event on the SiIvaGunner channel. The second tournament was substantially larger than the first, and contained additional media beyond the arrangements, most of which was published to its dedicated website. The two tournaments resulted in the creation of the Unregistered HyperCam 2 Takeover and DJ Professor K Takeover, respectively. The only King for a Day content to not be part of these events is "11 Minutes of City Pop [Full Collab, VHS Rip]", which was dedicated to the second tournament's runner-up.

A third tournament is not planned^[1]^[2] (although not impossible^[1]^[3]) and the projects dedicated to the 3rd- and 4th-place King for Another Day contestants, Law & Disorder and MissingNo., are canceled as of 2022.^[4] In 2021, the arrangement-based subcollective SiIvaGunner Fusion Records would be formed from the SiIvaGunner contributors who still wanted to make original arrangements after the conclusion of the King for a Day series.^[5]

History[]

The concept for the original King for a Day Tournament was developed by Ethan64Music in July 2018. The tournament was first announced during the King for a Day Tournament Break; due to a community guidelines strike, the SiIvaGunner channel became unable to upload new videos, so the team instead used the Twitter account and YouTube community posts to interact with fans, detailing the tournament's character selection process. The tournament itself began several weeks later, and it was one of the most well-received events on the channel. In October 2018, the promised channel takeover for the winner of the tournament, Unregistered HyperCam 2, was held.

Shortly after the conclusion of the first tournament, development began on its sequel, the King for Another Day Tournament. The project was first announced in January 2019 during the MAGFest 2019 SiIvaGunner Panel, and more details were released in the following months. While it was originally scheduled to begin roughly a year after the original tournament, it was delayed and eventually began in November. The winner of King for Another Day was DJ Professor K, a veteran from the first tournament, and his takeover was held in June to July 2020. Mariya Takeuchi was the runner-up, and she received a fusion collab as her prize in December 2020.

Despite not winning either tournaments, several channel events would be dedicated to themes related to certain contestants:

Cartoon Network Day & Adult Swim Night (along with its sequel) were events dedicated to Johnny Bravo's theme, although Johnny himself did not host either event.
Ajit Pai, Dancing Alien Team, and Nico Nico would eventually become channel hosts for their own events regardless, being The Harlem Shakeover, Alien Day, and Nico Nico Takeover respectively, with the first also receiving a dedicated album.
Mothman, one half of the Jack Bros., became channel host for The SiIvaGunner Spooktacular Halloween Horror Special Part VII: The Night Stalker.
