Kirby: Planet Robobot is a video game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 3DS in 2016. It is also a major meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.
Overview[]
Kirby: Planet Robobot is a 2.5D platformer from the long-running Kirby series. Its gameplay mechanics build upon the grounds set by its predecessor Kirby Triple Deluxe, but with the addition of a new gimmick: the Robobot Armor, giving the player enhanced powers and mobility.
On another peaceful day in Popstar, a highly advanced alien force known as the Haltmann Works Company, commandeered by President Haltmann, arrives out of nowhere and begins a hostile takeover of the planet, mechanizing everything with strange contraptions and defeating both Meta Knight and King Dedede in a blink of an eye. Kirby awakens during the company's arrival and sets off to fight back against its colonization, using Haltmann's own technology - mech-suits dubbed "Robobots" - against him. Along the way, he also encounters Susie, President Haltmann's daughter and secretary of the Haltmann Works Company.
The game's soundtrack, composed by Hirokazu Ando and Jun Ishikawa, is a cheerful, upbeat orchestral/chiptune mix, as is tradition for Kirby games, but also incorporates a number of harsher electronic instruments to symbolize the mechanization of Kirby's world; these instruments become more and more prominent the more the player steps into Haltmann's lair.
Rips[]
Kirby Planet Robobot has been referenced in numerous ways on the channel. The game was a major inspiration for the story arc The SilvaGunner Christmas Comeback Crisis, which has had several elements based on the game ever since its prologue, with The Voice Inside Your Head playing the role of President Haltmann by taking over Grandiose City, and Smol Nozomi paralleling Kirby by being a silent, fearless protagonist who even gains a mech-suit based on Kirby's Robobot Armor. Additionally, characters from Kirby: Planet Robobot appear in the series as main characters, most notably Meta Knight, who fights alongside Nozomi, and President Haltmann, who initially acts as The Voice's second-in-command before seizing the channel himself. Even with the story arc being mostly on hiatus since 2017, Haltmann's continued control of the channel has become the status quo referenced numerous times, including an entire side-series known as Haltmann's Archives.
Aside from the lore, jokes relating to Kirby Planet Robobot are also common in rips, with two songs from its soundtrack having become prolific channel memes. The first track from the game to reach prominence is "Rhythm Code", which became infamous on the channel after a rip of the song was published and caused controversy within the channel's community. Since then, the song has been frequently referenced as an allusion to the incident, although it is associated with the character Felix the Cat rather than anything from Robobot. The second track from the game to become a meme is "The Noble Haltmann", the game's main leitmotif, which was featured as one of the main jokes during the beginning of The SilvaGunner Christmas Comeback Crisis and has been regularly referenced since then.
