Jokes[]

The video of the rip is based on the Star Wars opening crawl, beginning with silence and static blue text that reads "Right now, on the internet, on this YouTube channel...".

At 0:08, a logo in the style of the Star Wars logo is shown, which is replaced to read "Smash Mouth", the band responsible for "All Star".

At 0:16, the melody of the advertised track is replaced with the melody of "All Star". Text crawls on screen, with the majority of the content replaced with various excerpts of the Wikipedia page for "All Star".[2]

At 1:18, the melody of the Star Wars theme returns.

At 1:26, the melody is subtly changed to The Nutshack theme song.

At 1:41, a meme appears of Shrek holding a camera appears, with the caption:

 *SNAP*
Yep, this one's going in my unironically good rips playlist.

ALL STAR

"All Star" is a song by American rock band Smash Mouth. It was released on May 4, 1999, as the second single from their album Astro Lounge, and it is one of the group's most successful songs, peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.

"All Star" is set in the key of F# major with a tempo of 104 beats per minute. According to an interview in 2017, songwriter Greg Camp was interested in exploring several layers of meaning with the stripped-down song: the social battle cry, the sports anthem, the fanbase affirmation, the poetic lyricism, the sweeping melody, the inclusion, the artistic music videos, and more.

The song is heavily used in the Shrek franchise, both to promote it and within the series itself, especially during the first film's opening credits introducing the title character. Devotion towards the song has been considered a factor in the intense interest towards the series and titular character observed on the internet. In turn, it has been noted as a popular INTERNET MEME, resurfacing on the internet and becoming prevalent in media in 2017, usually focused on remixes and edits of the song and its music video...

Trivia[]

  • The rip has a aspect ratio of 1920x800.
  • This was the first rip uploaded on May 4th, 2019, as the opening rip for the All Star 20th Anniversary event day, but also serves as a fakeout, as despite May 4th being celebrated as "Star Wars Day", the day would go on to have no further mention of Star Wars.
  • This rip has the songwriter credited as Greg Camp, the primary songwriter for Smash Mouth, instead of Super Star Wars' actual composer Paul Webb. This is the only rip in the All Star 20th Anniversary that does this, with the only closest example being the rip of Great Days -Units Ver.- - JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle, which credits Smash Mouth as a performer.
  • The captioned Shrek image at the end of this rip was originally made by Chaze the Chat, who had posted it to Twitter in January 2018. [3]
