On May 20, 2021, Dream released his second song, titled "Mask". The song is about Dream's personal experience with depression and ADHD, and the effect these disorders had on his own life.[1] An animated music video for the song was also released on June 8. Both the song and the music video have been widely criticized, with the song's lyrics being described as "basic" and "plain",[2] and the video being scrutinized for its uncanny animation and controversial message, spawning the "You Are Not Normal" and "Normal Pills" memes.
Six days after "Mask"'s release, the YouTube channel We The Sus Music uploaded a parody of the song, titled "Dream - Mask (Official Sus Remix)", in which the lyrics were changed to be about male homosexual intercourse. In contrast to the original song, the parody has been widely praised, with many (often jokingly) calling it better than the original.
The first rip on the channel to reference "Mask" was "Tabloid Jargon - Press Garden Zone Act 1 - Sonic Mania Plus", which features We The Sus Music's parody. Since then, rips featuring both the original and the parody have been uploaded semi-frequently, with the two being commonly paired together. Other songs related to Dream, such as "Roadtrip" by Dream ft. PmBata (his first song) and "Trance Music for Racing Game" by Bobby Cole (which he commonly uses in videos), have also made appearances in rips, albeit less frequently.
