"Metallic Mario"[1] is the track that plays when Mario becomes Metal Mario by equipping the Metal Cap, which makes him invincible to most sources of damage and increases his weight, which allows him to withstand strong winds, but removes his ability to swim and makes him sink in quicksand faster.[2] The song itself is an arrangement of the "Starman" theme, a recurring musical theme in the Super Mario series that plays when a character collects a Super Star, which grants invincibility similar to the Metal Cap.
In Super Mario 64 DS, the track now plays when Wario becomes Metal Wario by grabbing a Power Flower, since Mario can't become Metal Mario in this game. In addition to the aforementioned abilities, Wario can also walk on lava and freezing water for a short while during his metallic form.
The first rip of "Metallic Mario", "Metallic Mario - Super Mario 64", was uploaded to the GiIvaSunner channel on February 29, 2016. After the GiIvaSunner Termination, the rip was then reuploaded to the SiIvaGunner channel on April 26, 2016. It experienced a small surge in popularity in April 2019 due to many users being linked to it by the Discord bot Dank Memer.[3]
