Minions

The Minions are a species of characters from the Despicable Me franchise. They are a meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.

Summary[]

Despicable Me is a film released on July 9, 2010 produced by Illumination Entertainment and Universal Productions. The movie follows the main character Gru, a supervillain that adopts three orphans for villainous reasons but develops an attachment to them, making him become a hero. The movie contains a set of characters known as the Minions, who are a species of yellow creatures that speak an unintelligible language and typically work for an evil villain. They would have the most cultural impact of anything from the movie and have since become Illumination's mascot.

The Minions would eventually get their own spinoff movie titled Minions in 2015 and a sequel to it in 2022.

Rips[]

The Minions were first referenced on the channel in the rip "Song of the Ancients (Devola) - NieR", a rip that was intentionally made to anger the viewers. This was shown once again in the privated rip "Title Theme - 7 GRAND DAD", a rip that already contains various jokes the community had hated or found controversial. They appear at 1:40 alongside the Futami Ami loading screen from THE iDOLM@STER 2. In between these two rips, "Despicable Me - Despicable Me: The Game" was uploaded which features a minion clip near the ending before it cuts off.

After the supposed end of the channel, the channel would come back for The SilvaGunner Spooktacular Halloween Horror Special. One of the first uploads after its sudden return was "Main Theme (Halloween Update) - Despicable Me: Minion Rush", a video featuring an unknown individual in a minion costume dancing to "Snow halation". This person would be known as the Dancing Minion and would continue to see usage during 2017, with the Despicable Me: Minion Rush playlist serving as a way to make rips with the minion. The Dancing Minion would see occasional usage after 2017, with two appearances during the Big Time Rush 11th Anniversary event, and two rips from The Susie ARG. He also appears as a character in The SilvaGunner Spooktacular Halloween Horror Special: Part III and in the rip "Emote: No Sweat - Fortnite".

In April of 2018, Gadget Week 2 ft. The Nostalgia Critic would occur. Within this event, "Shadowlord's Castle (Memory) - NieR" would be uploaded, a rip uploaded as a reference to the very first minion rip. One other rip featuring the minions was posted during this event. In December of the same year, the Grinch Takeover occurred, which brought a handful of minion related rips due to it being an Illumination related source.

Outside of all of these rips, the Minions have only seen a handful of other cameos. The "Banana Song" is used in a handful of rips such as "Stage Theme - 1942 (NES)", and they occasionally appear as a visual element such as in "Familia - Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious". Other rips simply just have a minion soundclip play alongside other sources.
