The Monochrome Pause was a channel event that ended the beginning of The SilvaGunner Christmas Comeback Crisis.

During this event, the rips' videos and thumbnails were in black and white (most of them being "pause screen" themes), and the description was changed to full lowercase "please read the channel description. nice" or slight variations of it.

History[edit | edit source]

Throughout December 2016, The SilvaGunner Christmas Comeback Crisis arc was in full motion. Episode 6 was uploaded on December 31, 2016. However, in January the series was nowhere to be seen, except for a fake Episode 7 and a fragment of Episode 8. At the time, there was no explanation for the sudden disappearance of episodes, within the lore or otherwise.

Then, the channel unexpectedly stopped uploading on February 15, 2017, after the upload of Pause Screen (Mother's Caption) - Kirby Planet Robobot. At the end of this rip, the video turns black and white, coupled with the animated background turning static. It is yet unknown who pushed the pause button, although it is presumably the Voice Inside Your Head.[1]

Meanwhile, the SiIvaGunner Twitter account was taken over by Wood Man (as indicated by the full lowercase punctuation[2]). He complained that he has been left outside for several weeks,[3] before trying to find the pause button.[4]

The next day, See You Again - Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious was uploaded, exactly one month after the beginning of the hiatus. This rip (as well as those who followed during the event, at an average rhythm of one per day) was in black and white down to the thumbnail of the video. Wood Man however commented that he had not found the button yet.[5] He even managed to upload an entire album still without finding the "unpause button".[6]

On April 3, GO MY WAY!! - THE iDOLM@STER was released but Wood Man claimed he had nothing to do with it,[7] theorizing that it had probably been scheduled before the pause by the Voice.[8] The avatar of the channel had the previous day been changed to a new one featuring the Voice's head in a new pose and in color, though it soon turned black and white as well. Two days later on April 5, after a day's worth of Haruka Amami jokes, the pause finally ended with the release of Time Beam! - Kirby Planet Robobot seemingly putting the Voice back in charge.

Finally, on April 19, Megalovania (Chex Mix) - Undertale was uploaded. This rip is actually an announcement video from Chaze the Chat which, among other things, explains that the Monochrome Pause happened because the development of Loves the Ladies (Episode 7) took much longer than expected and caused the channel to be active for too long after its intended ending. To rectify this, he redefines said ending to simply be the end of Season 1.
