The Monochrome Pause was a temporary pause in uploads on the SiIvaGunner channel. It marked the end of the beginning of The SilvaGunner Christmas Comeback Crisis.
Summary[]
Throughout December 2016, The SilvaGunner Christmas Comeback Crisis was in full effect, with episodes of the story arc being released at a regular pace. However, after the release of "Advent of Hell" on December 31, developments in the series halted in January 2017, save for a fake-out for the seventh episode and a teaser for the eighth episode. At the time, there was no explanation for the sudden disappearance, within the lore or otherwise, though regular uploads continued regardless.
On February 15, the channel unexpectedly paused after the upload of "Pause Screen (Mother's Intuition) - Kirby Planet Robobot", a rip with animated visuals which ends with the video turning black-and-white and the visuals freezing. At the same time, the banner and avatar were also changed to be entirely monochrome. After several days without uploads, the @GiIvaSunner Twitter account was taken over by Wood Man, who complained that he had been left outside of The Voice's tower. On March 15, one full month after the start of the pause, he stated that he was looking for "the pause button", and the channel uploaded the rip "See You Again - Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious" for Umi Sonoda's birthday, which also had its thumbnail and visuals entirely monochrome.
For the next few days, the channel uploaded a handful of rips about once per day, mostly being of "pause" themes from video games, all with the same monochrome appearance and catchphrases written by Wood Man. On April 1, the channel commemorated April Fools' Day 2017 with a channel event in collaboration with the original GilvaSunner, which mostly disregarded the ongoing pause, ending with the release of the album Zero Grand Prix, which was stated to be released by Wood Man while he continued looking for "the unpause button". The channel's avatar was also changed to a new one featuring The Voice from a different angle and in color.
On April 3, the rip "GO MY WAY!! - THE iDOLM@STER" was released, without a monochrome appearance. Wood Man claimed he did not upload this rip, theorizing that it had been scheduled by The Voice before the pause. On April 5, after several monochrome rips celebrating Haruka Amami's birthday, the pause finally ended with the release of "TIME BEEEAM! - Kirby Planet Robobot", in which the colored visuals returned to the channel. Afterwards, "Kirby's Triumphant Return - Kirby Super Star Ultra" was uploaded to celebrate the end of the pause, similar to how "Kirby's Triumphant Return - Kirby Super Star" was uploaded to celebrate the end of the Good Night Break, and regular uploads resumed.
It was later explained by Chaze the Chat during the MAGFest 2018 SiIvaGunner Panel that the pause occurred because "the backroom team was getting frustrated with how long it was taking to make the Christmas episodes". (At the time, "Loves the Ladies" had yet to release, despite "Advent of Hell" teasing its release date as January 3, 2017. It was ultimately released after the pause, on April 24, 2017.)
