"Pickle Rick" is an episode of Rick and Morty, and a meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.
Summary[]
"Pickle Rick" is the third episode of Rick and Morty's third season.[1] It was initially previewed at Comic Con 2016, then as part the show's Season 3 promo, before airing on Adult Swim on August 6, 2017. In the episode, Rick turns himself into a pickle to avoid a counseling session. This eventually leads to him creating an exoskeleton for the pickle out of rat corpses, fighting several guards in a secure compound, and finally reversing the transformation while apologizing for the incident.
The episode was one of the most popular within the Rick and Morty fandom after its premiere[2] and due to declining opinion of the fandom at the time[3], it would be referenced ironically by non-fans.[4]
Rips[]
The first reference to Pickle Rick on the SiIvaGunner channel was via the August 31st, 2017 upload "ラスト (Lust) - Miku Flick", which inexplicably credits him as the composer in its metadata. The second appearance of Pickle Rick was on September 11th of the same year within the "7 Grand Dad Fusion Collab", in which his face is edited onto a Reddit upvote symbol at 33:56.
The first genuine appearance of Pickle Rick music-wise was the September 25, 2017 rip "Hi-Spec Robo Go! - Hard-Boiled Heavy Boss (CD Version) - Sonic Mania", in which his voice is pitch-shifted to the advertised track. After being parodied in a fourth rip in November 2017, "Dimension Heist - UFO Special Stage - Sonic Mania", the source would be used within the Nostalgia Critic Takeover upload "Lost Woods (Complete Version) - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", cementing itself as a source relevant to SiIvaGunner's identity.
From this point on, Pickle Rick would continue mainly being used as a YTPMV source, due to consisting of a vocal sound effect with no melody. Rips of this nature include "Circus (Mixle Mix) - Five Nights at Freddy's", "Brain Power (OST Version) - SOUND VOLTEX II -infinite infection-", "Boss Fight (Beta Mix) - Baby Felix Halloween", and "SHANTAE_STRM - Shantae (DS Tech Demo)".
Other interpretations of the meme include usage of the fan song "Pickle Rick! (Rick and Morty Remix)" by Chetreo, such as "Ice Fishing (Beta Mix) - Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force"; or as a visual / vocal interjection in shitpost rips, such as "BGM 21 - Elf: The Movie" or "Main Theme - Vine".
