"Puzzle Room - Kirby: Planet Robobot" was a low quality rip of "Puzzle Room" from Kirby: Planet Robobot.

Content[]

The rip is centered on Felix the Cat, a Russian bootleg game released for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive featuring the cartoon character Felix the Cat. The game is infamous for its game over screen featuring the artwork FELIX THE CAT UNMASKED by Kris "Dozign2kill" Balerite, which depicts Felix ripping off his own face and exposing his skull. The game gained notoriety after being featured in a June 2015 livestream by Vinesauce Joel, in which he expressed great shock upon seeing the screen.

In this rip, the advertised track plays unedited until 0:25, when the audio is replaced with "Continue?" from Felix the Cat as two Russian words appear on-screen, "да" and "нет" ("yes" and "no" respectively). At 0:35, a hand slowly rises from the bottom of the screen onto the word "нет" and clicks it at 0:44. After a brief cut to black, "Game Over" from Felix the Cat plays as the video shows an image of a baby with harlequin-type ichthyosis (colloquially known as a "harlequin baby"), a birth defect which causes the child to have red eyes and scale-like thick skin. The image is filtered with the "Hypernova Yourself" effect from the promotional website for Kirby Triple Deluxe, and Russian text from the Felix the Cat game over screen is shown in the bottom-left corner reading "игра окончена" ("the game is over").

The rip additionally had two clickable in-video annotations on "да" and "нет". Clicking the "да" annotation would lead to the music video for "Russkij Pusskij" by Carlito, while clicking "нет" would lead to a now-deleted graphic video of a "harlequin baby".

History[]

The rip was created by Le Ruse Bird, a then-member of SiIvaGunner's managerial team, after noticing the similarities between "Puzzle Room" and "Continue?". Aiming to directly reference the Felix the Cat game over screen, he initially wanted to have "нет" lead to an image of Kirby ripping off his own face, but no such image existed on the Internet at the time, so he instead opted for an image of a "harlequin baby", intending to replicate the original screen's shock value.[1]

The rip was uploaded by SiIvaGunner on June 18, 2016.[2] Upon receiving immediate backlash from the community due to its shocking content, the video was quickly removed. The @GiIvaSunner Twitter account then addressed the rip, in-character as SiIvaGunner, stating "I accidentally uploaded a low quality rip today. I'm sorry and I promise I will never upload a video of that quality ever again. I swear it."[3] This was followed by a tweet thread addressing the video earnestly and out of character:[4]

Okay, I'm going to break character for this. Someone fucked up and uploaded a shock video without any consent from the rest of the group.

This is something I or the rest of the team would never have uploaded, and me, just waking up to this news, is extremely upset.

I hope to continue to entertain you all with awesome music and wacky misleads, not things that will make you honestly hate me.

Last thing I'll say on the matter, and then I will go back into character and never reference this rip ever again: (continued)

I hope that you all can find it in your hearts to trust my videos and forgive me again.

Shortly afterwards, a video titled "Apology." was uploaded on the channel, being the first video to break the channel's kayfabe in its history. The video apologized for the events, stating that the rip was not an intentional part of the reboot and that its creator had been removed from the team.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being uploaded during the reboot, this rip did not use the standard video description format of the event aside for the catchphrase.
