Written by Pokémon composer Hitomi Satō, this jazzy track plays on the Sinnoh route of the same name. Route 228 is located in the Battle Zone and connects Route 226 and Route 229. The theme has a "Day" and "Night" version, like most tracks in the game. While route themes in Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remain in a single key, this one alternates between minor and major keys.

A new arrangement of the track with updated instruments was composed for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl.
