Season 1 was the season of the SiIvaGunner channel which took place from January 9 to September 30, 2016.

Summary[]

It is assumed that this season began with the start of SiIvaGunner. The season's end was declared to be September 2016 in the video "MEGALOVANIA (Chex Mix) - Undertale".

First channel and termination[]

SiIvaGunner originally began on a YouTube channel named GiIvaSunner, created by Chaze the Chat on January 9, 2016, as a parody of video game music uploader GilvaSunner (with a lowercase "L" rather than an uppercase "i"). Its first two rips, "Battle! (Wild Pokémon) - Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire" and "Route 110 - Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire", were uploaded that same day, and more rips would then be uploaded irregularly whenever they were ready. In February, the channel began attracting significant attention, including from notable individuals such as cobanermani456[1][dead link] and Temmie Chang[2][3], leading to a steady increase in subscribers near the end of the month. Over time, the rate of views and subscribers greatly increased every day, and on February 29, the channel went from one thousand to over three thousand total subscribers.[4] On March 1, Vinesauce Joel tweeted about the channel.[5][better source needed] In March, rips began to be uploaded consistently and a few channel ending fake-outs occurred leading up to the release of the first album, GilvaSunner's Highest Quality Video Game Rips: Volume 1, followed by the first proper channel event, April Fools' Day 2016, wherein GiIvaSunner collaborated with the real GilvaSunner (lowercase "L") to upload "Final Destination - Super Smash Bros. Brawl". By April 6, GiIvaSunner had accrued 35,857 subscribers and over ten million video views.[6]

On April 6, 2016, between 2:01 and 2:11 PM,[7] the GiIvaSunner channel was terminated due to violations of YouTube community guidelines. Reacting to this, the real GilvaSunner stated that he was okay with the channel,[8] and others on social media showed solidarity through the hashtag #HighQualityVideoGameRIP. The team behind GiIvaSunner then moved onto the name SiIvaGunner on April 12, in a backup channel created by Tainic a month prior, where they continued uploading rips.[4]

SilvaGunner: Rebooted[]

Throughout April and May, a substantial portion of the channel's community began showing discontent towards rips featuring "Snow halation" and protested by constantly flooding such rips with dislikes (which at the time were publicly visible on videos). The channel initially addressed this with the rips "MEGALOVANIA (OST Version) - Undertale" and "Megalovania (Beta Mix) - EarthBound Halloween Hack", two edits of Chad Warden videos in which he addresses the "dislike-bombing", and this discourse was later referenced in "Futari Happiness (NOZOMI Mix) - Love Live! School idol festival". The community discourse continued and would eventually lead to the channel's first major story arc and the beginning of its lore, SilvaGunner: Rebooted, in which the SiIvaGunner universe was rebooted by The Voice Inside Your Head as a result of the discourse. At the end of the event, Chad Warden agreed to have The Voice merge the pre-reboot and rebooted universes without "Snow halation", then used the power of The MF Like Button to bring back "Snow halation" himself, killing himself and The Voice in the process.

A few hours into SilvaGunner: Rebooted, the channel uploaded the rip "Puzzle Room - Kirby: Planet Robobot", which contained graphic shock imagery and resulted in harsh backlash from the community. The situation was initially addressed through a tweet written in-character as SiIvaGunner,[9] but was later followed by a series of out-of-character tweets[10] and the video "Apology." uploaded the next day, marking the first time the channel officially broke character.

Unfinished story arcs[]

Besides SilvaGunner: Rebooted, other story arcs were planned to occur in Season 1, but were not fully finished.

The Mashup Crusaders Arc was a minor story arc involving Mr Rental, the mascot of the furniture and appliance rental service of the same name, and his mission to "ban all mashups" in honor of "dank memes". The arc was mostly presented through a series of rips of the fake game Mr Rental: The Video Game, starting with "Opening Music - Mr Rental: The Video Game" on July 16, as well as a few appearances of Mr Rental in other rips. The rip "Slider - Super Mario 64DD" provides a makeshift ending to the arc where Mr Rental dies in a car crash, though a proper ending to the arc was planned but was never finished and ended up being reworked into "Behind the Scenes - Mr Rental: The Video Game" on October 22, an out-of-character video where NBGMusic discussed his cancelled plans for the arc's finale and other related content.

Another story arc known as the "Nuts Hack" was also planned. Starting in May, the channel would begin hosting strange livestreams and acting noticeably out of character. This behavior was planned to be revealed to have been caused by Angry Joe, who had hacked the channel during the Good Night Break and caused SilvaGunner: Rebooted by inserting The Nutshack into SiIvaGunner's ripping software. However, the arc never developed beyond the livestreams and a few hints at Angry Joe being a villain, and was ultimately scrapped due to it conflicting with the Mashup Crusaders Arc. The arc's existence was revealed on Twitter by Chaze the Chat and MtH in October 2016,[11][12] and was only acknowledged on the channel itself offhandedly in a Season 2 lore upload.

Planned channel ending[]

In September, particularly from September 27 to September 30, SiIvaGunner began releasing albums at an unusually high frequency. On September 30, the channel released a large amount of rips with themes of finality or consisting of elaborate medleys, culminating with the release of "the nutshack theme but the first nutshack is replaced with me ending the channel", a video by Chaze the Chat in which he reveals himself as the creator of the channel and explains his plan to end SiIvaGunner on September 30, the fifty-sixth anniversary of The Flintstones. This video is the end of Season 1, as defined by Chaze later.

The channel, however, uploaded 7 more rips sporadically throughout October, ending with the celebratory rip "Title Theme & Ending - 7 GRAND DAD". At the end of this rip, SiIvaGunner himself declares it to be his "magnum opus" and finally leaves his computer to get some rest. However, even this was not the true end as the channel would return for Halloween and Christmas; due to delays on the latter, Chaze the Chat would eventually introduce the idea of the channel having Seasons, and further that Season 1 ended in September 2016. It can be assumed that the last three months of 2016 fall into Season 2.

Memes[]

Several SiIvaGunner memes were introduced during Season 1, many of which would become mainstays on the channel and core parts of its identity.
