"Shelter" is a collaborative single track composed by Porter Robinson and Madeon. It is also a minor meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.

Summary[]

"Shelter" is a single made in collaboration with Madeon that was released on August 11, 2016. Porter Robinson would then write and produce an animated short film - sometimes called Shelter: The Animation - with animation by A-1 Pictures and Crunchyroll. It was released to Porter Robinson's YouTube channel on October 18, 2016. The official synopsis of the short film is as follows:

Shelter tells the story of Rin, a 17-year-old girl who lives her life inside of a futuristic simulation completely by herself in infinite, beautiful loneliness. Each day, Rin awakens in virtual reality and uses a tablet which controls the simulation to create a new, different, beautiful world for herself. Until one day, everything changes, and Rin comes to learn the true origins behind her life inside a simulation.[1]

The music video was hugely successful, with fan art of it and remixes of "Shelter" following, including mashups. The track would receive an official album, Shelter: the Complete Edition, that includes other tracks by Porter Robinson, as well official remixes and arrangements of "Shelter". An official 'Evil Edit' version of the track by Madeon was released for the channel Proximity on June 1, 2018.

"Shelter" is considered one of the most popular tracks by Porter Robinson, alongside "Goodbye to a World".

The first rip featuring "Shelter" was "Metallic Madness Zone Act 1 - Sonic Mania" on September 17, 2017. The track won't appear frequently until the release of the rip "Shelter - FIFA 17", in which services as the finale for the channel event, MAR10 Day. Since then, it has appeared in a few other rips, mostly in the form of mashups rips.

The track is notably a major meme on the SiIvaGunner fan-channel, VvvvvaVvvvvvr. This fact was referenced indirectly on SiIvaGunner with the rip "Survival - Shelter".
