Custom link colors[]

You can add the following CSS code to w:c:community:Special:MyPage/global.css or Special:MyPage/common.css. With this CSS, links to wanted categories will be colored yellow, links to disambiguation pages will be colored orange, and links to redirects will be colored light green, allowing those types of links to be visually distinguished.

.newcategory {
    color: #7C00FC;
}

.mw-disambig {
    color: #FC7C00;
}

.mw-redirect {
    color: #7CFC00;
}

Obtaining permanent links[]

Occasionally, SiIvaGunner contributors change their account handles, resulting in links being unnecessarily broken. This can be avoided by using permanent links, which can be obtained using the following methods.

YouTube[]

View the HTML page source of a channel and search for /channel/. The first match should be part of a URL in the format https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWWfwMN7o_nCammOff53Bwg, which should be the permanent link.

Twitter[]

Use the "Inspect Element" menu of your browser and search for /profile_banners/. The first match should be part of a URL with the format https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_banners/807784986048860160/1521002126/1500x500, of which the first number in it should be the user ID. The permanent link should be in the format https://twitter.com/i/user/807784986048860160.

Obtaining files[]

YouTube[]

Video thumbnails[]

The Rip Template Generator (see above) automatically outputs the thumbnail image for any video in the highest available quality. The website Get YouTube Video Thumbnail Image and Boing Boing's YouTube thumbnail grabber can also be used.

If the above methods are unavailable, a video's thumbnail can also be obtained manually by accessing the URL of the image directly. YouTube thumbnail URLs use the following format:

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/[VIDEO ID]/[RESOLUTION]default.jpg

"[VIDEO ID]" refers to the eleven-character ID of the video in question (visible in the video's URL, after "watch?v="), while "[RESOLUTION]" refers to one of the resolution options for the image. The highest resolution option for the vast majority of videos is "maxres" and should always be preferred, though if it is unavailable, "hq" can be used instead.

Using the video "A Grand Announcement" as an example, the resulting URL looks like this:

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/vGhX9gkh2pM/maxresdefault.jpg

Frames from videos[]

Frames can be directly extracted from YouTube videos through the use of browser extensions with "screenshot" functions. To make sure that the screenshot is taken in the highest possible resolution, the highest quality must be chosen in the video player settings and fully loaded. Browser extensions with such functions include:

Alternatively, YouTube automatically generates three thumbnails based on frames picked from the video, which can be obtained manually by accessing the URLs of the images directly. This is less useful for obtaining specific frames, but can be used to obtain the thumbnail image of a rip from its video when the actual thumbnail was changed afterwards.

YouTube automatic thumbnail URLs use the following format:

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/[VIDEO ID]/[RESOLUTION][NUMBER].jpg

"[VIDEO ID]" refers to the eleven-character ID of the video in question (visible in the video's URL, after "watch?v="), while "[RESOLUTION]" refers to one of the resolution options for the image, and "[NUMBER]" refers to one of the three thumbnail options, being "1", "2", or "3". The highest resolution option for the vast majority of videos is "maxres" and should always be preferred, though if it is unavailable, "hq" can be used instead.

Using the rip "Player Select - Super Mario Bros. 2" as an example, the resulting URLs look like this:

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Ug50kBkl3ys/maxres1.jpg
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Ug50kBkl3ys/maxres2.jpg
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Ug50kBkl3ys/maxres3.jpg

User avatars and banners[]

On the desktop YouTube site, the avatar and banner can be right-clicked to open the images in new tabs, leading to URLs of smaller versions of the original images in lower resolution.

Using Chaze the Chat's YouTube channel as an example, the resulting URLs look like this:

Avatar: https://yt3.googleusercontent.com/ytc/AIdro_n5XSl7RW3pdLeDjJrDGcQoU59F_rdUQVloAVSm-nQchOI=s160-c-k-c0x00ffffff-no-rj
Banner: https://yt3.googleusercontent.com/Z8S4SaLOtIk6W2MJEYOrdIG4320JFPeVYGSrBpIiXIeG6-8sQZUJVe9seKwF-f3DiodfOflEK2Y=w1707-fcrop64=1,00005a57ffffa5a8-k-c0xffffffff-no-nd-rj

Image Max URL (see above) can then be used to obtain the original full-resolution versions of the images. Alternatively, to access the URLs of the images directly, the last parts of the URLs after "=s" and "=w" can be entirely replaced with "0", resulting in URLs like this:

Avatar: https://yt3.googleusercontent.com/ytc/AIdro_n5XSl7RW3pdLeDjJrDGcQoU59F_rdUQVloAVSm-nQchOI=s0
Banner: https://yt3.googleusercontent.com/Z8S4SaLOtIk6W2MJEYOrdIG4320JFPeVYGSrBpIiXIeG6-8sQZUJVe9seKwF-f3DiodfOflEK2Y=w0

Community post images[]

On the desktop YouTube site, images from community posts can be right-clicked to open the images in new tabs. The resulting image will be either smaller and cropped, or simply smaller in lower resolution, depending on whether the image was right-clicked from the preview in the community tab, or from the post itself.

Using the January 28, 2024 community post by SiIvaGunner as an example, the resulting URLs look like this:

From community tab preview: https://yt3.ggpht.com/pq35I8e1B6RgwrXtNLhGrVHxXBzSeV8x00-wWSX7c3NuU8mUQzoGSZvEZH-S-VnrEbnZS4zPZ48KYXQ=s640-c-fcrop64=1,00001474ffffeb8b-nd-v1
Directly from post: https://yt3.ggpht.com/pq35I8e1B6RgwrXtNLhGrVHxXBzSeV8x00-wWSX7c3NuU8mUQzoGSZvEZH-S-VnrEbnZS4zPZ48KYXQ=s800-nd-v1

In either case, Image Max URL (see above) can then be used to obtain the original full-resolution versions of the images. Alternatively, to access the URL of the image directly, the last part of the URL after "=s" can be entirely replaced with "0", resulting in a URL like this:

https://yt3.ggpht.com/pq35I8e1B6RgwrXtNLhGrVHxXBzSeV8x00-wWSX7c3NuU8mUQzoGSZvEZH-S-VnrEbnZS4zPZ48KYXQ=s0

SoundCloud[]

User avatars[]

On the desktop SoundCloud site, the avatar can be right-clicked to open the image in a new tab, leading to a URL of a smaller version of the original image in lower resolution.

Using Chaze the Chat's SoundCloud account as an example, the resulting URL looks like this:

https://i1.sndcdn.com/avatars-000189955217-dmn29k-t200x200.jpg

Image Max URL (see above) can then be used to obtain the original full-resolution version of the image. Alternatively, to access the URL of the image directly, the last part of the file name containing "t200x200" can be entirely replaced with "original", resulting in a URL like this:

https://i1.sndcdn.com/avatars-000189955217-dmn29k-original.jpg
