"Slider" is a frequently ripped track from Super Mario 64, and a meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.

Overview[]

The song is a country/ska variation of the leitmotif used in "Bob-omb Battlefield" and "Snow Mountain", both being composed by Nintendo veteran composer Koji Kondo, used for slide areas in Super Mario 64,[1] such as The Princess's Secret Slide, as well as some of the hard levels, such as Tick Tock Clock and Rainbow Ride, and during races with Koopa the Quick.

Being one of the most well-known songs from the game, it has been rearranged/reused in several other titles, including Super Smash Bros. Melee ("Rainbow Ride"), Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario 3D World, Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Super Mario Maker 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Rips of "Slider"[]

The first "Slider" rip was "Slider - Super Mario 64", uploaded to the GiIvaSunner channel on February 28, 2016; it was a simple 7 GRAND DAD joke that was nonetheless particularly fitting. This rip was the most viewed video on the original GiIvaSunner channel, and was quickly reuploaded to SiIvaGunner following the GiIvaSunner Termination.

Since April 2016, new "Slider" rips have been released every few weeks. The only major bump in "Slider" rips was during September 2016, when 23 rips of it were released (11 of these being for the Super Mario Bros. 31st Anniversary event). "Slider" currently has 167 rips, counting every game it's featured in. For most of the channel's history, "Slider" was the track with the most rips on the channel (not counting "Circus" since its rips are switcheroos), until it was surpassed by "Raft Ride" on November 10, 2023 with the release of the 143rd "Raft Ride" rip.

The version of "Slider" from Super Mario 64 DS is the basis for almost all rips of "Slider", even though it sounds different from the original version of the track; for example, the Nintendo DS version does not have reverb, and the percussion is panned closer to the center instead of being panned far to the right. Since Season 6, some rips of "Slider", while still based on the Nintendo DS version, have had mixing adjustments to sound more like the original Nintendo 64 version.

"Slider" is noted in The High Quality Emailing Guide to be a track that is generally exempt from the stricter quality standards applied to other frequently ripped tracks, alongside "Circus", "Raft Ride", and "Wood Man Stage".[2] Nevertheless, most "Slider" rips from Season 4 Episode 2 onwards have been full arrangements of songs rather than melody changes.

Rips featuring "Slider"[]

Due to its popularity with rippers, "Slider" has also been featured as a joke in a few rips, many of which are medley rips.

The first video to feature "Slider" as a joke was "Snowmobile Accident", which was published on April 19, 2016, and mirrors GilvaSunner's video of the same name which also features "Slider". Several other parodies of "Snowmobile Accident" have since been released, all of which also feature "Slider".

Trivia[]

  • On the real GilvaSunner channel, this song was incorrectly titled as "Slide". Due to the popularity and legacy of the "Slider" rips, it is one of the few rare cases where SiIvaGunner has intentionally not matched GilvaSunner.
