"Crank That (Soulja Boy)" (or simply "Crank That") is a very barebones song, with the only melodic instrument being a steel drum. This makes it really easy to mashup with other songs, and in fact it is fairly easy to completely recreate the song in FL Studio, as it only used default presets from that DAW.[2] Because of this, mashups involving "Crank That" will usually have the steel drums edited to play the melody of whatever it's a mashup with.
This song was already a popular mashup source on Soundcloud before GiIvaSunner was created, and its use carried from there into Season 1. As with many Season 1 rap memes, it eventually fell out of use due to being seen as a cliché meme and too easy to use. However, in Season 4 Episode 2 it was revived through references to the video "dat boi!!!!" by ZimoNitrome, after that source was the focus of Dat (Soulja) Boi Day.
Character[edit | edit source]
In the SilvaGunner Christmas Comeback Crisis story arc, Soulja Boy is a part of the Rapper's Union alongside Chip tha Ripper, Snoop Dogg and Charles Barkley.
In Episode 9, Soulja Boy is shown fighting against the Kazoo Master with a sword, and telling anime quotes. This references the video "Soulja Boy Tell 'Em | Tokyo Trip Pt.2 | ソウルジャ・ボーイ"[3] and Soulja Boy's anime tweets.[4]
