On September 17, 2021, the South Korean television series Squid Game was released on Netflix. The first episode "Red Light, Green Light", features a giant robot doll singing "Mugunghwa flower has blossomed" in Korean, referencing the hibiscus syriacus, South Korea's national flower.
On October 5, 2021, the SoundCloud user OJC-O.J.C released a remix of the song in style of Jersey club music. The remix prominently samples "My Neck, My Back" by Khia. The remix gained popularity after the Twitter user @yyyyy_yyed shared the song in question with the caption "ENOUGH😭😭".
