SiIvaGunner Wiki

"Subways Of Your Mind", also known as the Most Mysterious Song on the Internet, is an unreleased song by FEX which resurfaced on the internet in 2019 leading to large, exhaustive search efforts to find its identity until it was found in 2024. In 2023, it became a meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.

Overview[]

On March 18, 2007, a woman named Lydia H. began searching for the identity of "Subways Of Your Mind" in online music forums, sharing an excerpt recorded by her brother Darius S. in the 1980s from the German radio station Norddeutscher Rundfunk. The audio was archived in 1985 within a playlist of other unidentified songs from his personal collection, which he later digitized and published online on a personal website in 2004. Though the excerpt would be shared by others on the internet for several years, it did not gain significant attention until 2019, when Gabriel Pelenson, a friend of the owner of indie record label Dead Wax Records, began sharing the song on several Reddit communities, proclaiming it to be "THE MOST MYSTERIOUS SONG ON THE INTERNET", and eventually created a subreddit dedicated to it, named r/TheMysteriousSong.

Soon afterwards, the mystery of the song's identity started gaining viral popularity. Music news website Tone Deaf published the article "Can you help some internet sleuths identify a mysterious song?" on May 27 that year, and American YouTuber Justin Whang later uploaded the video "The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet - Tales From the Internet" on July 9, describing the search efforts for the song thus far and leading to many more people engaging with the mystery. The increased attention also caught the attention of Lydia and Darius, who would contribute to the investigation, particularly by uploading the full recording and providing more context for it. Several leads were then looked into based on where and when Darius had recorded it. The five-year long investigation also led to the discovery of other unidentified songs, and gave birth to the lostwave community, which is dedicated to searching for songs of this nature. A final increase in attention came in March 2023 with the release of My House, a popular Doom II map which contains the song as an Easter egg.

On November 4, 2024, Reddit user marijn1412 revealed in a post on r/TheMysteriousSong that the song had been finally identified as "Subways Of Your Mind", recorded in 1984 by the German band FEX.
