Super Mario 64 is a 1996 video game and a major meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.
Overview[]
Super Mario 64[1] is the sequel to Super Mario World and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and the launch title for the Nintendo 64 in June 1996. As the original Super Mario Bros. is often credited as the textbook example of a good 2D platformer, this game is considered by many as the quintessential 3D platformer and is commonly considered one of the greatest and/or most influential video games of all time, due to its impact on 3D gaming as a whole. It has since attracted a cult following fueled by fangames, mods, speedrunning, rumors, and memes.
The plot of the game begins with Princess Peach Toadstool inviting her dear Mario for a party as she baked him a cake, but the plumber discovers when he arrives that Bowser has already captured her and locked all the doors in her castle. Mario then has to enter into magic paintings and find Power Stars that can open the path and allow him to save the princess.
The soundtrack, once again composed by the series' original composer Koji Kondo, is mainly inspired by ska music and prominently features brass instruments and xylophones. One track in particular, "Slider" (used for bonus rooms and some of the harder levels), became especially popular and got featured in many later Mario titles such as Super Mario Galaxy 2 or Super Mario 3D World.
The game eventually had a sequel on the GameCube named Super Mario Sunshine, though other follow-ups named Super Mario 64DD and Super Mario 128 were also developed but never officially released. The game was later remade via Super Mario 64 DS, then ported to Switch via Super Mario 3D All-Stars.
Rips[]
The first appearance of Super Mario 64 on the SiIvaGunner channel was "Slider - Super Mario 64", posted on February 28, 2016. The track "Slider" has since become a prominent part of the channel's history, being ripped and referenced many times.
