In music, a lick is a stock pattern or phrase consisting of a few notes in a melody. The Lick, considered "The Most Famous Jazz Cliche Ever",[1] has been used in various musical pieces, even outside of jazz. It has also commonly been used for comedic effect or as part of an inside joke among musicians.
