"The Protegent Rap", also known as "Unistal's Protegent Complete Security Antivirus Software", is a promotional rap song for the antivirus software Protegent. It is also a meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.

Protegent is an antivirus program made in India. It was released in 2012 with three editions: Antivirus with data recovery software, Total security software, and Complete security software. It wasn't well-known outside its country of origin until after the company released several promotional videos on YouTube, which gained an ironic following for their ineptitude. The bulk of Protegent's popularity as a meme came from the streamer Vargskelethor Joel's Windows Vista destruction stream.

In the stream, he discovered the program by searching on Google, and took a look at the official antivirus website, as well as the program's promotional videos. One of the videos on the channel that was shown was "The Protegent Rap", a video released on February 25th, 2014 in which the program's mascot Proto clumsily raps about the program's supposed benefits. Notably, Proto's original design is plagiarized from an official render of the character Whyatt Beanstalk from Super Why!, with the only changes being colors and the addition of the Protegent logo and the text "PROTO" to the character's costume. The mascot was redesigned to minimize the resemblance to Whyatt in 2020.

After this stream, "The Protegent Rap" gained popularity as the subject of YouTube remixes, which frequently poked fun at Protegent's questionable credibility as an antivirus program.

Rips[]

Protegent's first appearance on the SiIvaGunner channel was in "FEATURE PRESENTATION", wherein the mascot, Proto, was killed by 8-Bit Beast. In Season 3, the description of the video "The Haltmann Works Co. Training Video (Emailing Rips, Art, and King for Another Day Contestants!)" noted that "The Protegent Rap" was banned in rip submissions. This ban was also included in "The High Quality Emailing Guide", which was released through the video "Capybara Coconut Doggy" in Season 6.

According to MtH, this ban was maintained because Proto was the only character to have canonically died in "FEATURE PRESENTATION" due to the meme being so disliked.^[1]^[2] During this ban, Proto appears in two rips during the The SilvaGunner Spooktacular Halloween Horror Special: Part III event, is referenced as part of said event's story in "The SiIvaGunner Spooktacular Halloween Horror Special Part III: Episode 3", and appears as a boss character in the game Kolo Terorita.

During The SiIvaGunner Halloween Horror Special Part VI: The Cult of Proto in Season 7, "The Protegent Rap" was unbanned after the release of "BOOK III: The Ritual - The SiIvaGunner Halloween Horror Special Part VI: The Cult of Proto" due to Proto's central role in the event's story, and was a major meme during the rest of the event. The first ever appearance of "The Protegent Rap" in a rip (aside from being referenced in "Cult of Proto Sting - The Cult of Proto Original Soundtrack") was "The Monkeys' Maze (OST Version) - EarthBound". Since then, the song, as well as more rarely the ad "Protegent - World's Most Advanced & Only Antivirus Software with inbuilt Data Recovery Software", has continued to appear in rips, mostly in the form of mashups.
