"Theme of Eastern Story" is a composition by ZUN and a bonus track in the album Akyu's Untouched Score vol.5 released in 2007, a collection album of songs from Touhou Reiiden: Highly Responsive to Prayers. A rendition of the track is featured as an extra stage theme in Seihou 1: Shuusou Gyoku.
Since its first inception after Touhou 6: the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, the melody of "Theme of Eastern Story" has become widely recognized as the recurring leitmotif for nearly all title screen songs and several other tracks in the series.
Although "Theme of Eastern Story" has not been directly ripped under its own name, arrangements and several other tracks featuring its prominent leitmotif have been frequently ripped. The stage theme "Retribution for the Eternal Night ~ Imperishable Night" from Touhou 8: Imperishable Night was ripped the most, with 8 rips.
