"Type A" (named as "Tetris Music 1" in Tetris & Dr. Mario, "Ancient Tetris" in Tetris DS, and "Troika Retro" in the prototype THQ version of Tetris DS) is a frequently ripped track from the Tetris series.

Summary[]

"Type A" is an arrangement of "Korobeiniki", a Russian folk song. While it is most well-known from the Game Boy version of Tetris, whose success led to "Korobeiniki" becoming the de facto main theme of the series and appearing in numerous other games, the familiar tune had previously appeared (with a different bridge and no loop) in the 1988 Famicom version of Tetris. Further, the original release of the Game Boy Tetris used "Minuet" as the Type A music, with "Korobeiniki" replacing it afterward.

In the NES version of Tetris, the Type A music is instead an arrangement of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy".

Rips[]

There are currently 41 rips of "Type A". The first "Type A" rip was "Tetris: Type A - Super Smash Bros. Brawl" on March 3, 2016, on the GiIvaSunner channel, but was never reuploaded after the channel's termination,[1] and was a mashup of the advertised track with "Gangnam Style". The song itself also appears as a joke in other rips, like "Overworld (NES Classic Edition) - Super Mario Bros. 2", "South (In-Game Version) - Friday Night Funkin'", "Metal Crusher (SECAM Version) - Undertale", and many others.
