"We Are Number One" is a song from LazyTown. It is also a major meme on the channel.

History

The melody of the song was created in September 2013 by Máni Svavarsson while he was driving in his car and recorded him humming the tune on his mobile phone.

The song was first released on October 3, 2014, as part of the LazyTown episode "Robbie's Dream Team". The music video was released to YouTube in 2015. The song wouldn't become a meme until 2016, and is one of the few memes that was initiated by SiIvaGunner and then spread beyond it.

On December 12, 2016, the stems of the song were published by LazyTown staff on YouTube, SoundCloud and Mega.

A music video for the song was uploaded on July 25, 2015. The music video features various clips of the episode whilst the song is playing.

The first "We Are Number One" rip, "Hilltop Chase - Kirby Super Star Ultra" was uploaded to the SiIvaGunner channel on September 2, 2016 by Nape Mango. The song didn't become a meme, however, until September 13, when "We Are Number One - LazyTown: The Video Game" was uploaded to the channel. This became the first rip to reach one million views. Since then, "We Are Number One" has become one of the most prevalent memes on the channel.

On August 17, 2020, "We Are Number One but it's a Fusion Collab" was uploaded to the channel as a tribute to Stefán Karl Stefánsson, Robbie Rotten's late actor.

On October 3, 2024, the channel would celebrate the 10th anniversary of the song with "We Are Number One" Day.
