"Whales" is a song by the American hip hop group Hail Mary Mallon and a meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.

History

"Whales" was released in 2014 as a part of Hail Mary Mallon's album Bestiary. The song is a satirical take on the superficial cult of money and wealth in the hip hop culture, in which the duo describe what they could do with very large amounts of money.

Owing to its humorous nature and its nearly non-existent instrumental (consisting of just a simple drum loop), the song had been seeing use as an easy mashup source throughout 2015. Shortly after Undertale released, archdiggle created a notable mashup between "Whales" and Undertale's "Tem Shop", which became the first popular Undertale mashup and the most popular "Whales" mashup.

"Whales" was mainly used in the channel's early days, being featured in 21 rips during Season 1. After Season 1 it would more-or-less disappear from the channel, likely for the same reason as other raps popular in Soundcloud mashups; it is difficult to use creatively due to its simplicity, and it was already on its way out when SiIvaGunner started. Aside from a small return during Tax Day 2018, most of "Whales"'s few post-Season 1 appearances are medley rips.
