"Wii Shop Bling" is a mashup by toonlink of the Wii Shop Channel theme and "Hotline Bling" by Drake. It is a meme on the SiIvaGunner channel.
History[]
The mashup was originally uploaded on to YouTube on October 18, 2015 but this upload was removed due to copyright reasons. An unofficial reupload of the mashup by the user gravy on November 14, 2015 currently sits at 14 million views. toonlink would later reupload "Wii Shop Bling" on October 3, 2016. The official reupload currently sits at a little under 500k views.
Aside from the obvious main sources, the original mashup also includes the Nintendo DSi Shop theme from 1:55 to 2:47 (with it being slowed to half speed in the latter half of its usage) and "Cha Cha" by DRAM from 3:17 to the end.
An updated version of "Wii Shop Bling", titled "Wii Shop Bling V2" was released by toonlink on January 16, 2017. Instead of just being a normal mashup, this remake was an arrangement of "Hotline Bling" in the style of the Wii Shop Channel theme. This was originally uploaded on SiIvaGunner before his official upload as a rip titled "Main Theme - Wii Shop Channel", which notably retconned another rip.
Rips[]
The first rip to reference "Wii Shop Bling" on SiIvaGunner was in the rip "Main Theme (Anniversary Edition) - Wii Shop Channel", a rip made by toonlink himself. As toonlink is a contributor to the channel, many other rippers have referenced the mashup in order to poke fun at his most famous creation. The main way it is referenced is via the inclusion of the Wii Shop Channel theme and "Hotline Bling" together in a melody change medley rip. It is also frequently referenced via visuals only in fusion collabs and similar rips that have a Wii Shop Channel segment. Ironically, despite originating from a mashup, it isn't usually featured in mashup rips.
The mashup was frequently referenced in the April Fools' Day 2024 event due to the Wii Shop Channel theme being commonly used in "x, but y" content. The mashup was also referenced in a segment of the "Shop Fusion Collab" and received a SGFR remix titled "Wii Shop Swing" from the RIP² event and album (although it is officially listed as a remix of "Main Theme - Wii Shop Channel").
